After that you can pretend to be working on a solution, like oil companies pretending to be transitioning to all green energy while not actually reducing oil prodiction at all.
Best of all, you can make money on both ends by selling fake carbon credits while continuing to make the problem worse.
Your own kids and grandkids will have to live (or die, as the case may be) in the hellscape you help to create. Not too long from now there will be no escaping it for anyone, even the wealthy. But if everyone around you now is treating it as not that big a problem, and saying all the time that it's not a big deal, it's actually pretty easy to ignore.

Exactly. Because oil in the ground is profit wasted. The energy companies want to transition the world to green energy - from giant nuclear power plants and wind farms and other centralized megastructures that they control and profit from - but not until the last drop of reasonably extractable fossil fuel has been sold and burned. So they pretend to be working on the "transition" now, and leech billions in government funding, while doing their best to slow the transition until they're ready to profit from it.
A single offshore oil rig produces upwards of $800,000.00 per day. There's no way they're giving that up voluntarily.
And then after they fail to transition to green energy, they can promise to fix the problem by using carbon capture, even though it would require more energy than they have produced.
