Heaviest ever SUVs massively undermine climate benefits of other vehicle improvements, says new GFEI report

Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.
As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades:
How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world:
Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:
Anti-science, inactivism, and unsupported conspiracy theories are not ok here.
People need to be made to pay the full cost for these things, for the CO2, for the damage to infrastructure, oe the air pollution, for the risk to people. That or regulate them out of existence.
In Australia, car registration cost is based on weight. Does the same apply in the US?
Registration is managed at the state level. In Minnesota weight is not a factor. The registration tax for passenger class vehicles (cars, vans and pickups rated at less than one-ton, and one-ton passenger vans) is determined by the vehicle's base value and age. Minimum tax for vehicles 10 years old and older is $35.
The newer and more expensive your vehicle the higher the tax. In terms of road repair costs, that is collected via a gas excise tax.
I don't know about the US, but not in Canada.
