Has anyone been able to get consistent mouse input on black ops 1 zombies? Most maps feel okay, but I can't get Call of the Dead to a remotely playable state...

Tried lowering my mouse polling rate to 125Hz, raising my max framerate, disabling vsync and mouse acceleration. Still horrendous.

Not sure if this is Linux specific or if it's on Windows as well. I really wanna play Call of the Dead, but it's as if someone is adjusting my mouse sensitivity constantly while I play. The effect is not little.

Edit:

Using a controller works fine I just discovered, I definitely prefer mouse and keyboard, but at least I have an option!

Details of symptoms: It feels kind of like the framerate lowers significantly super frequently; during these moments my mouse acts like I cranked down the sensitivity as low as it'll go - to the point where I have to lift my mouse multiple times to turn 90 degrees, then things kick back in and I spin a 720 while readjusting to my normal sensitivity. Extremely disorienting.

I have fairly high end PC (especially for a game this old). Research I've done suggests that the mouse input is tied to the framerate; might just be an issue with the game then. Annoying that it works fine with a controller. Just hoping someone's got a fix!

Late reply but I only just found this post.

It's the framerate that's messing up your mouse, but using the in-game FPS limiter doesn't play nicely with Proton/Wine so here's my solution.

In the launch options for Black Ops add

DXVK_FRAME_RATE=125 %command%

You can replace 125 with whatever fps you you can consistently hit. In-game you have to turn off vsync and uncap your fps, but for some reason BO1 defaults your settings if you leave the fps uncapped, So instead use the console command com_maxfps 200 just make sure the number is higher than what you've set in the steam launch options.

Also if the game ever asks you to launch in "safe mode" click no or it will revert all your graphical settings.

Thanks for the help! Smoothed things out a bit, but Call of the Dead is still unplayable. But it's definitely because of the wild FPS swings I get on the map. Seems like it's related to where I'm looking. From spawn, looking towards where jug is, my FPS drops to 20 or lower sometimes. Doesn't affect walking speed, or anything really when using a controller. But mouse and keyboard are borked.

Maybe someday the performance of that map will be fixed. I tried a few proton versions without any improvements. For now, I'll just use a controller. A bit annoying that the PC version has no aim assist for controller...

Basically seeing the same issue as this thread
