I'm playing ghost of tsushima pc right now. It works on wine, but you'll need to turn off upscaling. you also will want to install vkd3d because it doesnt seem to support dx11 or earlier. The graphics do look pretty minced sometimes and I encountered an issue where nothing showed up at all(i turned off upscaling to fix). It should be noted im using a pirated copy cause there is no GOG release.

Bugs: -blur/depth of field effects looks awful -grass looks bad at certain angles -not too good framerate(i am using the minimum recommended gpu however)

~~Update: Whenever I go to strike my uncle in the tutorial, the game freezes and I need to restart it, but it freezes again. I am going to try and fix this ~~ Creating a new save file fixed this

Ultimately I think my pirated copy is corrupted or something, so ill get it from another source, because it seems like whenever i attack someone my game crashes.

I currently have a win 11 machine and would like to dual boot with Linux. Looking at some of the different options, it seems many aren't recommended for dual booting. Are there any that are?

I just found this cool utility a couple days ago and have found that it's a great solution to sandboxed versions of Discord being unable to provide rich presence. It's a Python script that queries the Steam web API to get info to forward to Discord's API. The "installer" sets up a systemd service that will auto-run the script for you.

It requires you to get your own Steam API key which was a trivial, though slightly buggy, process for me. You can optionally use your own Discord app ID, or just use the one owned by the guy that created this script.

Thus far I have been playing on my XBox 360 wireless controller, but the rubber has worn off one of the sticks so far, i can feel the edge of the hard plastic beneath it when I play. The springs in the triggers are creaking as well.

So I am looking for a replacement.

Some people recommended the 8BitDo controllers. The 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4 Ghz Controller offers hall effect sensors and a loading dock for the same price as a regular Xbox or Playstation controller.

I found some posts about the compatibility with Linux. The BT+2.4 version seems to have more problems, but even the 2.4Ghz version needs some tinkering.

Does anyone have any experience with 8BitDo in general or the 2.4Ghz model in particular? Are there other controllers I should look at? I mostly play rogue likes with controller and would like a XBox/Playstation style controller.

Thanks.

Edit: Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I used them and watched some reviews. I went from the 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4Ghz to the GuliKit KK 3 Max and finally landed at the Flydigi Vader 3 Pro. Ordered it from Aliexpress (not available at Amazon in Europe) for under 50€.

I guess the meta is installing them via Lutris\Bottles and then launching them via Steam to have a modern controller support and overlay, is that's so? Does emulation make it better in any way (it seems easier)? What would you use playing them now?

I've watched a couple of vids on games from NFSU to Pro Street forming some kind of a saga, and felt nostalgic enough to once again jump in this cringe pool.

I won't spoil my own opinion on these games besides one point: Pro Street was probably the last one to have a decent, influential OST. Won't lie, they've introduced me to my current favs and made me research their genres further. For that I can excuse EA, or rather BlackBox from crticizing too much, although wanting to play their older games instead of new ones says it all.

Has anyone else had this problem? I updated my openSuse Tumbleweed today (restart required), and now none of my games work. Most are through Steam, so at first I thought it was that. But I have Cyberpunk through GOG launched with Heroic. And even more, Alien Arena has the same problem, so it's not even a proton issue (I did try changing proton versions before the other games too).

What happens is that either they freeze entirely, crash to desktop (after a short time), or freeze then crash. It seems like the bigger the game, the more quickly it crashes, which makes me think memory issue. This seemed moreso since ARK didn't even get to the launch menu screen, just played some music while my desktop froze, and I could see my memory widget maxed out. Then the music fizzled and then CTD.

I've never run into a problem like this and have no idea where even to look.

Edit: Another update today and now half of my games work. Even weirder.

Edit: Solved: Was a bug in kernel 6.8.9. Rebooted into 6.8.8 and all is well. Guess We'll see how the next one goes.

Since the lastest update on The finals we need to use Proton Experimental to avoid the anticheat randomly kicking Linux users, but since yesterday the game is crashing, sometimes in the menu. Sometimes the games launches and close automatically, with the lastest proton GE instead of Proton-experimental I had the following error:

LowLevelFatalError [File:.\Runtime/RenderCore/Private/RenderingThread.cpp] [Line: 938] Rendering thread exception: Fatal error!

Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION writing address 0x00007f0ab4997000

With Proton Experimental the games crashs with a Wine error: "!status && vkCreateComputePipelines"

My command args on steam: PROTON_USE_EAC_LINUX=1 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 mangohud gamemoderun %COMMAND%

My PC are: CPU:

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (12) @ 3.700GHz GPU: AMD ATI Radeon RX 6600 16GB RAM, Kernel: 6.8.9-300.fc40.x86_64

Anyone with a similar problem?

Does anyone know why OW2 may be crashing on Arch? I thought it was just me, but I went to protondb and saw more reports. The only solutions I found from historical crashing non-Arch related was for nVidia users, but I'm on AMD.

Any clue why it may be? And, more importantly, what the solution may be?

It crashes shortly after starting if that helps.

Thought i share it, since it came in handy lots as a GoG enjoyer.

steamworkshop_dl() {
    steamcmd +login anonymous +workshop_download_item "$1" "$2" validate +quit
    mv -v "<path to your temp Steam folder>/steamapps/workshop/content/"$1"/"$2" "$PWD"/"$3"
}

Purpose: downloading Steam Workshop mod to $PWD with minimal work.

Usage: steamworkshop_dl [game-id] [mod-id] [name]

game-id is in the URL of the main workshop page, mod-id is in the URL of the mod

To make usage simpler, create an alias with the game-id:

alias stdl='steamworkshop_dl <game-id>'
stdl <mod-id> 'that mod'

Needs steamcmd. If download fails, try username and password instead of 'anonymous'.

I tried DOTA2 but don't like it.

I'd probably start playing HOTS again if they put it on Steam without Battlenet (OW2 doesn't open Battlenet on Steam).

I am playing Gigantic.

I migrated almost everything on Linux and, low and behold, the only game giving me issues is DOTA2.

I'm using Steam flatpack, it runs, I can play against bots, I can spectate games. The moment i try to play in matchmaking a VAC messadge pops up preventing me from starting a game.

I tried reinstalling, veryfying the files, installing on a differend hard drive, scanning the disks for errors.

Nothing worked. Any idea?

Edit: thanks guys, it was actually Proton!

Testing if VRR is active and working

I recently updated to fedora 40 and enabled the experimental setting to get VRR running. But I am an idiot who has been playing at frames rates between 30-60 on screens without VRR for almost all of my life so I can't even know if VRR is actually working or not. Is there some rest I can run to see if VRR is functional¿? If not, which parts of the game should I concentrate to see the difference between VRR and no VRR¿?

I'm using EndeavourOS with ext4 file system for daily usage and a dual bootable Windows for gaming. What I want to have right now is getting rid of Windows completely.

When I tried it before, I had to try multiple tweaks for a game and find which one worked on Linux. Therefore, I want to take a snapshot with BTRFS and try it until I find the right configuration.

While I have quite a bit of experience with Linux, I've never used BTRFS. Do you think it's worth it?

I thought about keeping the games on the ext4 system, but I hate splitting the disk. I'm thinking of keeping the games in a non-snapshot volume.

UPDATE: I just re-installed EndeavourOS with BTRFS + snapper + BTRFS Assistant :)
