There are 5 or 6 of these battery technologies now. The media reports on the really great new power density or efficiency or whatever. Then in the last paragraph they toss in, "Right now, of course, they cost the equivalent of $60 per AA battery, but we're sure that's fine."

We are left counting on these unlikely breakthroughs having a second breakthrough that brings the price down 2+ orders of magnitude.

I read like 5 years ago that we were, any minute now, entering Moore’s Law for batteries.
