He still lost vote shared compared to the previous election.

How do you mean?

2020 Results:

Biden: 81,283,501 Trump: 74,223,975

2024 Results (95% Reporting):

Kamala: 70,383,093 Trump: 74,312,688

Trump effectively had the same number of people voting for him - and obviously had a bigger share of those that bothered to vote.

Ah I looked a bit earlier with less vote percentage reporting. Guess the outstanding vote was in more republican areas than I had thought. Regardless, the rest of my point still stands even if the vote share is about the same this election
