Who tf uses "pirate streaming sites"??? Why is this even a thing. Just download your BDRemuxes via the *arr stack or paste the rarbg into you qbittorrent-nox on your nas/homelab and Jellyfin works fine.

So much setup when you can just visit a website and watch shows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

In like 144p with ads. Obviously I kid with that above setup that zoomers (and I) love, you can just torrent with qbittorrent and watch in VLC like long before video streaming. Ez pz.

Imagine being on a piracy related instance and not using an ad blocker, or thinking that illegal online streams are 144p.

Huh? I use ublock origin, sponsorblock, privacy badger, etc etc. but that's for browsing the web and YT. Not watching movies and TV shows which is what torrenting is for. I'm from a piracy instance and that's precisely why I know to do that rather than watch some dodgy "illegal online streams" site?

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 3 points 2 days ago

They're about as dodgy as your illegal torrents. lol And no, those addons are for every website out there, including streaming sites.

LMAO, I use adblockers and even braflix (rip) provided content in HD. Also everyone can't have infinite bandwith and storage.

Also, opening website on Firefox with Adblock is much faster than torrenting.

Centralized storage of pirated content is a problem. You want p2p to continue, otherwise it's suddenly very easy to deprive all of those streaming sites of content.

[–] sag@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

I know but I already stated the reason why I prefer streaming site over torrenting.

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

YIFY also uses "HD". So does YT. Doesn't make it good though, unless you're watching on your phone or something.

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Okay that makes sense actually, I forgot US has limited data on their main internet connections.

[–] sag@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

Naah Bro India. Wi-Fi have unlimited bandwith but I am talking about cellular data.

Here in colombia a lot of people stream pirate sites instead of downloading a torrent. It’s just a culture thing. My guess is lack of storage space to keep torrents. Streaming goes to a cache that gets cleared out so it doesn’t take up storage.

Let them focus on the streaming sites that are a dime a dozen than go for the main sites

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Yeah fair but we are on Lemmy. I hope no one is streaming or downloading YIFY or some shit thinking it's peak. I mean they can if they choose to but shouldn't need to with such a cool community at their disposal.

[–] wrekone@lemmyf.uk 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think a big part of it is that a lot of people stream on their phones. For a lot of those people, their phone is the only computer they have. So quality is less of a concern than availability. I'm all for the Arr stack, personally, but I can see how streaming has more appeal for a lot of folks.

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

I didn't really consider that. Having no computer other than a phone is pretty crazy

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You're not that cool if you feel the need to immediately jump to attacks and disinformation.

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

Huh? Where did I attack anyone, nevermind spread misinfo?

Some people just prefer to do so, others cannot afford a VPN just yet. There’s always a reason.

For example; I usually torrent but due to just being graduated, no job yet and so no income. I’ll resort to streaming sites for now.
