Or doesn’t know the meaning of concubines.

I don't know the meaning of that word either, but based on context I assume it's because I'm not into any sketchy shit.

It's the step between mistress and partner.

Oh.......yeah, I was thinking it was much darker. It sounds like some kind of metalic tub that you put children in to rape them in the fields of Alaska at an oil rig job.

At least with mistress's and partners consent is a key factor.

In several countries, and absolutely historically, it’s actually been a government-classified relationship status.

It just means people involved in a romantic and sexual relationship who are unwilling or unable to legally marry for whatever reason (because they are already married, because they aren’t legally qualified, such as one member is from a slave caste, etc)

It's an old term for a pleasure slave.

No, concubinage was typically consensual.

By definition of concubine, sure, but consensual is a far cry for most. I'm trying to remember the exact quote, but I'll paraphrase it here: 'In slave-owning societies, the vast majority of concubines were slaves.' https://archive.org/details/historicaldictio0000klei for the source.

Historically consent has often been quite optional, when it comes to marriage, concubinage, and the like...
