However, it was later discovered that the machine did not register her ham and asparagus when she scanned them

So why is the headline still "forgot"? The machine seems to be the problem here.

And yeah keep your illegal stuff and weapons at home when you do shoplifting, because the cops might look through your stuff and add everything they find to the charges (even if they are false charges)
