Edit: disclaimer, I don’t agree with the tittle, it’s just what it’s being said about her visiting my city and what im writing here is to criticize how stupid this is. Seems like some people aren’t reading the full text and are thinking I’m defending a billionaire. I’m not
Honestly I don’t hate Taylor Swift, pop artists or whatever. Entertainment is important, but what’s up with this “mega concerts are good for the economy”?
The argument is that it brings revenue for local hotels and restaurants or whatever. But everything is overpriced. They’re talking about normal people coming to our city to spend 2000 dollars minimum in a ticket, 1500 a night in a hotel and then eat in franchises fast food chains around the stadium. Everyone is acting like scalpers, but legally somehow. Only rich people are making money, and more than that, people are being robbed. I guess it’s a legal way to rob people, but to me an average working class person spending $5000 to watch a show is pretty sad.
And you know who’s making the most money out of this? A billionaire, and of course the owners of the stadium who are also billionaires. Sure if creates some jobs and stuff and that’s nice, but which is just an r/orphancrushingmachine. Fuck gig work economy. But the whole event is just more of rich people concentrating more money.
Happy for all fans going there to have fun, enjoy your night, I just feel bad for how much they’re paying and I can’t believe most people reaction is “wow a ticket is going for 2k, how cool. I wouldn’t pay, but how cool is it? Such a phenomenon”
If we had strong laws against price gouging for this kinda of event then maybe I could get behind it. Well $200 for a ticket it’s still stupid, but it’s not as bad as 10x that price. So we get this events that only rich people can go, but sadder than that, there are several stories of people going into debt to watch this show
