Hi Everyone!

(You may have seen this already, but it looks like posts from Lemmy.World are having issues federating)

It's time for the Lemmy iRacing League. We'll be running Season 1 as a 3 week series, using entirely base content (included with the subscription). This post will serve as the single Pinned Post for the whole season.

Rules

Please read the iRacing Sporting Code - This is extremely important, and will be worth the time it takes. The iRacing UI will also ask if you've read this before joining your first official session. We will follow the iRacing rules on clean racing.

Protests will be handled after races are finished, outside of extreme cases. They can be submitted privately to myself or publicly in the thread. Both parties will be able to tell their side and then 2 uninvolved members will be asked to make a decision.

Setups: Open setup races, but please don’t bring setup shop sets. I’m not going to police it too hard. Building your own setups is perfectly fine and the iRacing baselines are generally pretty decent too.

Getting Started With iRacing

With some members not having use iRacing before, I felt like it would be good to add a section about getting started. This will set you up with a 1 month subscription, the UI installed, graphics configured and into a test session.

Signing up

https://www.iracing.com/membership/

The iRacing signup process offers a discount to new members, at ~40% off. This is a one time deal and if you choose to renew your membership it will be at full price. Many long term subscribers work around this by purchasing one year subscriptions during the yearly Black Friday sales.

Our league is setup that a minimum subscription of 1 month, starting on Aug. 1 will get you all the way through the season. For a new account a 1 month membership is $7.80 USD.

When you signup be sure to DISABLE the Auto-Renew subscription if you would not like to continue after the conclusion of the league.

Install the iRacing UI

When you log into the iRacing Member Website for the first time after signing up it should take you through a First Startup Guide which will guide installing the sim software, iRacing UI and any other necessary dependencies.

Graphics and Triple Monitor setup

I'm going to link to an external source on this, as Dan Suzuki has covered this really well.

Joining The League

In the sidebar of the UI select "Find a League"

Search for "Lemmy iRacing League"

If there's interest in a group practice session I'll get one going, and then I'll be available online at least an hour before each race. Please leave any questions here in the thread and I or someone else should be able to help.

Sim racers could look forward to "not quite a week but a couple of days" with the new content to see if they like it enough to buy it.

"For each car, there will be all configurations and engines that you would find in any dealership. If your favourite car is sold in either petrol or diesel, to give you an example, or has a version that mounts 17-inch wheels with a sunroof, then it will be the same in our game." - Davide Brivio talking to Multiplayer.it

Pre-release Multiplayer test with the the V1.6 version of AMS2 Beta demonstrating various recent developments made to the game and its Multiplayer experience.

The test was hosted by Low Fuel Motorsports as part of their own ongoing beta integration of their services with AMS2, which is expected to extend to all users upon V1.6 release (currently in final stages of development).

Uncover why a basic piece of equipment is now indispensable in simracing. It ensures your concentration remains sharp and your body temperature stays low throughout demanding races, enhancing peak performance and reducing overheating disruptions.

Things are back to normal at the top of the list for most played racing games on Steam in October 2024: After The Crew 2 leapfrogged everyone following the announcement of an offline mode being implemented and the game being severely discounted. The Crew 2 dropped down the order a bit, with BeamNG.drive, Forza Horizon 4 and 5 taking back the podium spots.

The biggest surprise, however, can be found a bit further down: DiRT Rally 2.0 actually posted a new all-time player peak record in October, eclipsing the 3,486-player mark set in March of 2021 at 5,074. A recent poll here on OverTake showed that most of our community actually prefers DR2.0 over the newer EA Sports WRC - and the price for the older rally title dropping to as low as €1.99 in late October certainly helped, too.

At the end of every year, sim racing streamer Jimmy Broadbent hosts a fun 23 hour race around Zolder on iRacing to raise money for charity, and this year looks like it will be the most stacked yet in terms of high profile participation.

Finally got a chance to run an imsa fixed race at silverstone! in iracing.

Weather said rain unlikely: that was a lie.

It lightly rained the whole race.

Qualified P2 with a lucky lap in the wet, but fell back to P3 at the start of the race.

Tried to overcut P2, but didn't have the pace.

P3 finish in the LMP2 class.

Super fun race.

Week 6 of Season 4, 2024: Got in a few races.

Started off with IndyCar Fixed at Long Beach, started 9th and finished 6th.

Next, IMSA Fixed at Road Atlanta (one of my favorite tracks!), started 14th and finished 11th.

Ended the week strong with a P3 finish in the PCC at Road Atlanta!

How was your week?

Based on this thread (https://feddit.org/post/3912054 / !newcommunities@lemmy.world ) there are quite a few people who prefer not to interact with communities hosted on Lemmy.ml

Could we maybe consider moving this community to a less controversial instance, such as discuss.tchncs.de because !trucksim@discuss.tchncs.de and !diysimulators@discuss.tchncs.de are already hosted there, or Lemmy.zip ?

I posted about my Moradness experience on Reddit after I received a defective glove. He then banned me from his Discord and allegedly released a response video to his Discord. It was later sent to me and I felt the need to respond after he indirectly called me a terrible person.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/21453474

First of all we would like to comment that we have just opened an account in Lemmy and this is one of our first messages. Greetings to all!

We believe it would be good to inform the users of this community about the status of the development of our Open Source Racing Simulator.

Since a few months ago we are in the process of performing several tasks related to our version control system. It is our intention to stop using Subversion (svn) to start using Git. We believe it is a better and more modern system for the development of our project, and we think it can help to attract more developers than using Subversion.

This change also involves a repository change. While Sourceforge (current) has support for git, we think we would be better off elsewhere, and for that the people behind a-lec.org have offered to host us with an instance of forgejo, as well as space for our website, our masterserver and possible things that may come later. You can find more info in this post of our website.

But to be able to do this it is necessary to make important changes in the structure of the project, and for this the code is being revised to facilitate the separation of the game base from the assets (tracks, cars, robots...). In addition, an audit of these assets is being carried out, which is taking quite some time.

As for the development itself, particles (smoke, sparks, dust...) are being added in the OSG graphics engine, although this is still at a very early stage of development.

We are also working on a Download Manager that allows downloading content from repositories, although this is giving us some headaches in the Windows build.

A lot of work has been done on the LS-GT1, LS-GT2 and LP1 categories, with new physics (Simu 4.1), new skins and improvements in the AI of the robots.

New tracks are also being worked on, such as Ardennen-Spa which you can see in the video below, Long Jour (former LongDay based on Le Mans) and the improvement of some tracks already included in the game.

Perhaps most important, though, is the work being done on several fronts to optimize the game's performance, but this is an arduous task.

For all this work, all possible help would be greatly appreciated, so, as always, we are open to receive both new developers and occasional contributions.

As an example of this we leave you with a video in which we performed a USR robot race in the aforementioned Ardennen-Spa, where you can also see the first implementation of the particles. We hope you like it: https://peertube.linuxrocks.online/w/31d4orqABsmwCGEsEpjpVf

Cheers!

Hello,

Would it be possible to have weekly discussion threads? This usually helps giving people a place to chat without having to create posts themselves
