Hi,

I've got a file that I torrented (Linux distro .mkv).

My goal is to seed that file again. I do not have the original torrent file anymore because I broke my server (multiple times) and lost data.

Is there a tool that searches for the right torrent? The tool should create a hash and compare the file's hash with all the hashes of all the linux torrents from the sites I use. That's at least how I imagine such a tool would work.

I got the torrent from a good private tracker and I was able to redownload the torrent file for that file but others were from public sources I can't find.

I'm looking to make a complete backup of my family's DVD and CD libraries by turning them into plain unencrypted media files that can just be played by whatever software. And I just might create torrents for some of the ones that don't already have established highly seeded torrents.

Except, I've been trying all day on and off get a DVD ripper with automatic decryption set up on my machine and can't figure it out. I use Fedora, and none of the ones I read about are on the standard package manager, probably because Fedora doesn't want to get sued. I have tried the source code for the major ones but again, they have next to no official or even unofficial documentation, need dependencies which I can't figure out where to get, or the compile or run crashes with cryptic errors, or errors out when . Web searching has been less than helpful with any of these problems.

Has anyone here gotten a decrypting DVD ripper working on Linux? Can you share what steps you took, or what documentation/tutorial you followed? I really don't want to have to use Windows or proprietary software for this, because for the former, it's... Windows, and for the latter, I don't trust it because piracy software can be shady AF.

http://www.mobilism.me for books and audiobooks (my #1 favorite, requires free account to download, it has around 90% of what I look for, including novels, a great collection of cookbooks, magazines, etc).

ebooks channel on IRCHighway for ebooks (my 2nd favorite, has pretty much anything mobilism doesn’t, but requires a free IRC client… here is a guide on how you can access it)

http://www.libgen.fun for technical manuals, textbooks, and magazines (my 3rd favorite, also has mirrors with different suffixes like libgen.rs, .is, .lc, .gs, .nl, etc)

http://libgen.rs/fiction/ is the ePub fiction section of libgen (thanks to u/deadnamingmissdaisy for pointing out that libgen has various sections depending on what you’re looking for)

https://mywarez.org/ (thanks to u/gcar1966, has an ebook section with 40k+ titles of very random stuff, and an audiobook section with 1500+ titles. Requires registration.)

Also, here are two honorable mentions. Legal, but worth a look.

https://archive.org/details/southerncookbook00lustrich/page/34/mode/2up (this one is legal. It’s a collection of around 11,500+ scanned cookbooks from the 1700s to today. Most you can view without an account, but the newer/more popular ones require a free account to “check out” the book for an hour… it’s put together by UCLA and some other universities. Just be warned that some of the older southern cookbooks have references to “n words”, like at the bottom left of this page.. try to remember the time in society in which the books were written when browsing).

http://www.gutenberg.org (thanks to u/katzenpippi, mainly books that are out of copyright. Totally legal website).

On a side note, I use “Calibre” to manage all of my ebooks. It’s free, and can convert from one file type to another, plus it allows sideloading and emailing books to your device.

So far I am in h-o-d and w-o-t but I don't like either of them. Any advice would be highly appreciated! :)

  • I need to manually type in a PIN with my mouse whenever I want to log in.
  • I haven't really ever found anything I was looking for
  • UI is from early 2000s

E.g. an audiobook is usually within a folder. I downloaded the files and there is nowhere the author, nor the title of the book.

If I change the files by improving the file names, adding cover etc. Should I (re)upload the torrent?

Sorry for asking such noobs questions

I am still a young pirate and new to all this. I'd like to contribute and upload to trackers.

How did you guys decide to which tracker you are going to upload/ host your stuff?

I am still checking out various sites and I am not sure which criteria I should use to evaluate to which tracker I should upload my torrents. Am I overthinking it?
