See title.

I constantly feel like any interaction with a sales person is just a big con. Whether it's a car, insurance, an apartment, internet, or a specialty item that I'm interested in but not an expert on. I always feel completely lost and uncomfortable and like no matter what decision I make I'm making the wrong one.

I have a set of Bose QuietComfort earbuds I wear daily for workouts. I finally killed them and in the market for something new. I'm looking for higher end name-brand earbuds which would work for my exercising needs (bicycle rides, and gym workouts). ANC is necessary (but pretty common on all the top brands/TWS earbuds these days).

I was thinking about the Bose QC2 as it would be the logical upgrade, but I've heard mix reviews about them and I can't figure out if it was just a bad batch of earbuds or if it's a poorly designed product.

I guess the Sony XM4's would be a logical alternative but I don't know how comfortable they are for exercising

Edit - Android user, so apple airpods aren't an ideal option

Personally, this one:

-The newlyweds had theoretically been together for 5 years but saw each other so little that they were almost strangers to each other.
-The bridegroom discovered only belatedly that the one he was going to marry was a spoiled child submissive to her mother.
-The groom wanted children and the bride said she would think about it, but still hadn't made up her mind on the wedding day.
-Everyone was originally supposed to sleep at a friend's house, who suddenly put the dishes in the big ones, but the mother of the bride decided on a whim that no, her daughter would not sleep in said house, although obviously without notifying the owners.
-3 people (the bride, her mother and a guest) ended up spending the night in the village hall. The mother slept glued to her daughter and the guest had to stay awake all night for lack of a place to lie down.
-During the feast, the guests were of different origins and gathered in homogeneous ethnic groups who stared at one another.
-The DJ only played Senegalese music, which obviously only appealed to guests of Senegalese origin.
-The mother of the bride has a disconcertingly fragile ego, preferring to refuse to answer a question rather than admit that she does not know.

Was there recently a kbin backend change? I haven't been able to see kbin posts all week but they're populating now.

I am looking to expand my list of rss feeds. What are you favorites? I like science, technology, art, history, books, movies, television... but I am open to expanding those interests and learning something new.

I have this friend, N, that has recently started believing things very out of the ordinary. He said that he's been getting into paganism and studying runes and candles. I told him that was very interesting, it sounded like a fun time and a good hobby to have. N let me know that it wasn't just a hobby, but that it had a function and purpose, a sort of witchcraft.

I come from an academic background; it doesn't seem healthy to me to actually believe and try to practice witchcraft, not because it might be real, but because of the mental health associations with it. So I told my concerns to N but he brushed them off, saying that people have the right to believe in what they want. I respect that, but I do not want N to fall into delusion. I let him know, as respectful as I could, that believing in witchcraft does not make it real and that it wasn't healthy to believe otherwise. He got really bothered when I told him he should talk to his therapist about this stuff. N has a history of mental health issues and was in a deeply abusive relationship for a few years which cause him a lot of grief. I was accused of being rude and trying to impose my beliefs. His last message to me was him asking me to stop and that anyone has a right to believe what they want.

I cherish N a lot as a friend, I do not wish them any harm. I respect that anyone has a right to believe what they want, but I really don't think this is healthy for my friend. Is there any way I can help him? Is the best way forward to just stop and let him be?

Hot sleepers, have you had any real world success with cooling blankets that give you that good weighted-down feeling but don’t reduce you to a sweaty blob by morning?

One of my favorite pass times is throwing on a chill playlist and flying around in Just Cause 3.

The game rewards flow state. If you're thinking about what you're doing, you're going to crash into something for sure. The result is I find it incredibly meditative and cathartic.

I do occasionally switch to 4 just for a change of scenery, and driving in GTA can be a similar experience as well.

Are there any other games I should be checking out for this sort of gameplay?

Also, I only mention PS5 because that's what I'm playing on, but I'm not fussy about it being a ps4 game or something

I had a couple classmates that pretended to be vampires back in elementary and middle school. They’d pretend their Koolaid was blood, complain about the sunlight, and bite their friends a lot. Not enough to draw blood, though. I haven’t kept up with most of them, but one guy is a teacher now. He seems pretty normal.

Whether you started with a 2600 and a joystick in your hand, an N64 with a blistered palm or building your first PC in your teens, what is that one video game you've played at some point that to this day sits at the top of your list.

I don't mean doctor-making-150k-a-year rich, I mean properly rich with millions to billions of dollars.

I think many will say yes, they can be, though it may be rare. I was tempted to. I thought more about it and I wondered, are you really a good person if you're hoarding enough money you and your family couldn't spend in 10 lifetimes?

I thought, if you're a good person, you wouldn't be rich. And if you're properly rich you're probably not a good person.

I don't know if it's fair or naive to say, but that's what I thought. Whether it's what I believe requires more thought.

There are a handful of ex-millionaires who are no longer millionaires because they cared for others in a way they couldn't care for themselves. Only a handful of course, I would say they are good people.

And in order to stay rich, you have to play your role and participate in a society that oppresses the poor which in turn maintains your wealth. Are you really still capable of being a good person?

Very curious about people's thoughts on this.

On Reddit, one could collapse the thread in the treeview to look at the next comment in the root of the tree - is that possible on kbin as well?

Do you choose to interact with the fediverse in a particular way?

For example, I only make posts on kbin.social and mostly comment only on kbin.social. I mostly keep federation turned off, but do turn it on occasionally to see if there is anything interesting going on. So for me, it is:

  1. Posts and Comments to Kbin first
  2. Rest rest of the fediverse second (and just occasionally)

I love the fact that I choose which communities to subscribe or block and that I can choose when to federate/defederate from the larger fediverse.

Mine has to be Trader Joe's line of frozen Indian Food. The Palak Paneer is amazing!

The settings tab in the sidebar allows me to "show top bar" but when I do, aside from the standard-seeming "All", "Subscribed" etc, this top bar lists a bunch of seemingly random mags (NorthVancouver? Telugu?). Is there a way to customize what's up there? Or at least set it to list my subscribed mags? As-is it's a bunch of mags I have no interest in.

Edit: so anyone coming here doesn't need to go thread diving, responses say currently not doable. There is an open pull request for it though, so someone's working on it maybe

Over many years of using messageboards, forums and reddit, I've had the 'search, don't ask' ethos drilled into me, the idea being that creating new threads to ask simple questions is a bad thing because it decreases the signal-to-noise ratio of content.

But now that we're trying to grow a new platform, it occurs to me that a lot of appeal in established platforms is the searchable index of knowledge that has come out of people's questions being asked and answered.

In light of that, do you think we should be creating question posts more enthusiastically to build up our library of information, even if it might be stuff that could potentially be answered by doing a reddit search?

If I follow a person, not subscribing to a magazine, what does that do for me? Do I see their posts/comments somewhere; if so where?
Also, do boosts factor into that or are they purely to bump stuff up in the algorithm?
