Bingo! Unless the planet suddenly explodes, we'll probably survive whatever else is thrown at us

[–] rosymind@leminal.space 7 points 10 months ago (6 children)

Could be! I've spent the last 3 or so years with little to do but think, read, argue and watch youtube. I tend to watch mostly educational content, ranging from the big ones ("nile red", "veritasium", nutshell I can't spell, "world science festival") to lesser known ones ("sci-show", "fall of civilizations", "economics explained", "donna" and a bunch of others). Robert Sapolsky is amazing, btw, look him up if you don't already know who he is. But anyway, most recently I learned about the last 5 mass extinctions in a video by "paleo analysis"

Anyway...

I think many people will die in the upcoming climate crisis (and are already dying) but I don't think humanity itself will completely die out. I mean, we are not the pinnacle of evolution that some people would like to think, and we're still changing and likely will continue to do so as our environment changes. But die out completely? Prrrrrobably not. As a species we're highly adaptive (even though some idiots in power hold us back) and I think that at least enough of us will survive to continue the species.

Maybe not, but I think we have a shot that's no more unlikely than anything else that's happened so far

The more we learn, the better it will be for all species. We'll figure it out eventually... or die out

Sure, yeah. My comment was just in relation to the previous comment stating that we voted for what we have- I wasn't saying Biden is a bad choice. I voted for him and will vote for him again. It's more the other side of things. The republican side that blocks a lot of people-friendly legislation and are blatently scamming simple folk into voting against their best interests

All that said, if there was a viable alternative to what we have now I would take it. But a vote against Biden (at this point) is just shooting oneself (and frankly most everyone else) in the foot

Can you imagine being that guy's partner, on the internet, reliving your trauma in joke/meme format and now you're a baked ham

Yes, but to be fair a lot of us were swindled into it. District moving, lies, misinformation, voter suppression, and many are working so much there's hardly time to verify what's-what. Then when voting day comes along the ballots are worded so obscurely that the average person has no idea what the fuck they're actually voting for/against. I get lost in the wording at times as well!

I vote, and I vote for the best interests of the majority because I'm wired that way. Many others are... confused

It takes time. They have to sort through which threats are credible, how they are connected, etc. Things like this help to expose extremists. They'll come out of the woodwork, bit by bit. Plus, it reminds the more moderate people that Trumpers are bat-shit-crazy. Most people would be embarrassed by Trump and his supporters. Some will be so embarrassed that they'll vote against him even if they somehow like him otherwise. Lets not forget how emotional they are.

It may seem like this is bad all the way around... but I really believe they just need time

I would just like to point out that the Holocaust was not JUST Jews. Other people were persecuted as well (such as LGBTQ+ peeps)

ADHD. I blurt shit out. My emotions are about 6 steps ahead of the rest of my brain. Uninteresting things are death. Time is either too fast or too slow. Sitting still for long periods of time is torture

My favorite is when I ask a question and then am too busy thinking to pay attention to the answer, so I either have to ask again, or just guess

I was born with one and it was partially corrected at birtb. I can't stick my tongue out far, but I have none of the other issues you've listed (partly because I'm a woman married to a man).

I highly doubt you would regret having it done as long as you're in a clean environment with a surgeon who knows what they are doing

I can't do it, either. The only way it's tolerable is if I'm sitting next to them and can occasionally grab the controller (husband and I get through 1 player games this way, currently playing The Sinking City)
