I think this is related to the recent security vulnerability that affected, notably, lemmy.world. Even unaffected instances mostly decided to invalidate existing user sessions just to be sure and this required resetting Jerboa and some other apps that presumably hold onto a cached version of your auth token even if you remove the account and re-add it or something. So it was necessary to clear the app cache and storage to reset it and add accounts again.

For me it's basically a collection, the kinds of boards I'm building don't really have much in the way of resale value either so I just hold onto them. I do rotate between a few of them though, but certainly not all.

Unless you can find a local meetup then trying before you buy isn't very easy, sadly. You can do things like print out layouts from https://compare.splitkb.com/ which will give an indication of how well a given design fits your needs, but nothing is a substitute for using it for a while. Even trying something out for a few minutes won't really give you an idea of what it's like to live with day-to-day.

Many of us have just taken to trial by fire, buy things based on hunches and work from there, but that's not an easy pill to swallow in terms of the financial burden of doing discovery that way.

Good luck in your search, be sure to scroll the posts here and in the reddit for inspiration.

Well now you need to show the keyboards

Thunder has the gestures. Personally I've not really got on with them so I'm using Jerboa even though I prefer many other aspects of Thunder. Maybe give it a shot yourself.

pseudoymous, even

My best shot has been "Lemmings". Also I, personally, hate "Fedizens" so let's hope that one doesn't catch on.

Yeah, I would recommend using the "central" (master) side as the one plugged in, the "peripheral" (slave) side should last at least a month on one charge and will talk wirelessly to the central half. By default with the Sweep ZMK firmware the central is the left and peripheral is the right.

Socket your controllers, not least because they're expensive and it's nice to reuse them in future if you get a different keyboard rather than buying more, but also because it'll make installing new batteries easier. Don't forget the power switches.

Good luck with the build.

Yeah, it's only communities that people on your instance search for/subscribe to afaik. So if you're the only one on your instance then you have control over that.

Further to that it's only the post objects (and comments, etc.) that is replicated all pics and videos are just URLs. even when you upload a picture with the post, that's just uploaded to the instance and the link to it is the link of the post, even on other instances the images are fetched from the original source from the client side. I do believe each instance does local thumbnaling.

I don't think there are really any major downsides to uniform profile keycaps, it's ultimately mostly preference. The only thing that might cause issues could be the homing j and f keys if you only get a set that supports QWERTY. But that's a much smaller problem than not being able to rearrange the caps at all due to a sculpted profile. Blanks are a good option, and forces you to learn your new layout without looking at the keyboard, but I understand the appeal of having that available to speed up the learning process and commit it to muscle memory.
