Oh I guess I missed the joke, then. I thought it was a bit of a non-sequitur. I think I still prefer my version

This is a fair point. It becomes a matter of which questions we're asking as a society, though. Of course we are not at a stage where capital is the only driving force for science (thank goodness for public funding) but it's not far fetched that we might be, and a world where questions are only asked in the context of profit generation (and unsatisfying answers are suppressed) is a dystopian world indeed.
It's fair to say capitalism is having a negative impact on science (e.g. journals) but it's not as dire as what's suggested
Part of what taxation accomplishes is taking resources away from the wealthy and putting it in public hands. Even if the taxes are misspent, so long as the 1% are getting less back than they're putting in it'll stem the number of people starting their own rocket programs and buying nations to turn into their doomsday compounds.
Put it all in a pile and burn it for all I care, as long as it closes the wealth gap.
This is what makes progressives' work cut out for us. We can't even use the same tactics, because what we're saying makes people uncomfortable. People will happily believe the things that give them good feels and reinforce their existing beliefs. The truth of what we need to do and what change needs to happen and of injustice is not something that can be packaged and sold in feel good lies.
We can exploit the same rage-bait engagement-bait outrage tactics to mobilize people like us, but we can't change people's minds
yeah and it's not that dissimilar on consoles. 800gb call of duty games on a single disc? plus you need a connection to play most games or even get the necessary patches that make the game playable since everything comes out as trash in the 1.0 version.
I see the appeal and desire for physical media but at this point it's a charade and more harmful for the environment to boot
The structure of this feels off, the punchline already happened in panel two and the text in panel three isn't adding anything. A panel 3 without text would be funnier imo because it would let the joke soak, I also think moving the punchline to panel 3 would have worked better.
Capitalism isn't just about "things need funding" the point of the meme is that capitalists determine what gets funding. A socialist state might put economic force behind other scientific endeavors, ones driven by capital are intended to create profit. The profit motive drives innovation instead of the pure ideological pursuit of truth or any other driver.
Putting your stupid comment aside consider all of the resources and time and effort and greenhouse gas emissions that went into growing and shipping that food around the world.
Waste is harmful for many reasons.
The hypocrisy against Iran in particular is bothersome in that Israel has illegally developed and possesses nukes. That's Iran's justification, and it's validated further with each passing day.
The American world order is falling apart and nuclear weapons are proliferating, we may very well see "tactical" nukes used in combat in my lifetime, and who knows what the response will be.
Meanwhile all anyone says about the decline of USA is "lol it's weird, they're so weird." A future history book, if we're lucky and have them, will have pictures of memes next to pictures of mushroom clouds.
Where the fuck is everyone
we're not far off from grocery store workers having to do the same
