Wow, beautiful analogy! I’m going to use that in my professional career if you don’t mind. Also with your permission I’d like to give you credit with a link to this comment, if that’s OK with you, of course.

I’d take “works perfectly” with a grain of salt. “Doesn’t die and continues to grow after thawing” is more accurate, IMHO.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Apple’s CSAM scanning. You know, hang on to the photos as evidence, and, for an added bonus, sell more iCloud storage because the “System Data” now exceeds the free iCloud data storage quota. Win-win!

If it is indeed a boneheaded mistake, then it’s probably because of over reliance on RPC-type calls from the front-end that displays the data, to the back-end that actually handles the data. User deletes photo, and the front-end, instead of actually deleting it, tells the backend to do it… and then hides the photo from view, maybe updates its index of photos marking them as “deleted” regardless of whether the backend actually deleted the photo.

Then an OS update comes along, and rescans the filesystem, and report a bunch of new photos to the front-end, that then happily add them to the GUI to the user’s surprise.

Modern APIs and software architectures are a bloated, unnecessarily complex mess, and this is the result.

From that article they say they will issue refunds if there is a technical issue with the game. Thus, if you live in a country where PSN is not available, you could go that route. “I’m trying to sign up for multiplayer but I can’t because my country is not listed. Therefore multiplayer is broken and I want a refund, because this is a technical issue; a part of the game isn’t working.”

May be worth a shot…

Whoah, isn’t FUTO the non-profit that Louis Rossmann works for? This is great news!!

Actually the ad matches the article. To me the ad is “fringe” and it has infested the “mainstream” (CNN).

His analysis and analogies are actually pretty good, except he ruins it all with his cringy intro and outro. That’s disappointing.

If this is their attitude to a clear self-inflicted fuckup, then that’s plenty reason for me to avoid them and their services. It’s not like their services were distinct in any way… just a dime in a dozen cloud provider.

Hi fellow espresso aficionados,

I’m thinking to get a nanotech shower screen (IMS BV200NT, for example) for my Breville/Sage Barista Touch Impress and wanted to ask if any of you have any experience with NT shower screens…

Would there be any taste difference between the stock Breville/Sage shower screen?

Also, how tough is the NT coating? Say, if I use a metallic puck screen and it ends up rubbing up against the NT coating on the shower screen, would the NT coating get ruined/damaged?

And as a followup, does the NT coating help repel coffee grounds and distribute water better? I thought the latter would be more influenced by the quality and distribution of holes in the shower head. Also, does having the NT coating mean the puck screen is redundant for both distribution of water and grind sticking to shower screen?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Hi all, recently I acquired a number of 1kg tubs of Cafetto evo cleaner on sale. I figured since Breville/Sage backflush tablets are the 1.5g Cafetto variety (see photos), I can probably safely replace them with Cafetto powder.

Now, the powder comes with a little scoop. Each scoop of powder is about 3-4g of powder, so a lot more than a standard Breville 1.5g Cafetto tablet (see photo for dimensions of said tablets).

According to the instructions, I need a scoop of powder for each cleaning cycle. That’s at least 2x more mass than a Breville tablet. I wonder why that is…

Is the powder less concentrated than the Breville tablets? Maybe it’s the “evo” brand (certified organic) vs. the regular brand (organic version is “weaker” somehow)?

Or is it likely that the powder instructions are “universal”/generic and apply to all machines, from a tiny Bambino to big ass commercial units?

Most importantly, do you think it’s safe to use “too much” powder (i.e. one full scoop as per directions on the tub)? When I used the 1.5g Breville tablets with my machine, it took 2 cleaning cycles back to back to fully dissolve it, so I worry that if I run the cycle with 4g of powder, it’s gonna take forever to dissolve…

If there’s anyone here using Cafetto, Cafiza or similar powders with their Breville/Sage machine, please let me know your routine (how much powder by weight) and if you do anything else.

P.S. my machine comes with a blind portafilter rubber disc with no hole, so there’s no concern with the powder “squirting out” prematurely through the portafilter.

I appreciate your expertise and feedback on this one. Thanks in advance!!

Link handling (lemmy.ca)

I was wondering, did anyone notice how internal links (e.g., !voyagerapp@lemmy.world or https://lemmy.world/c/voyagerapp) aren’t handled by the app? I was wondering if this could be detected and handled by the app as an internal (in-app) link, as opposed to an external link (i.e., open link within the app instead of launching a web browser view). I suppose that’s harder with the Fediverse, but probably doable.

I've been testing the Orion browser for macOS and iOS/iPasOS for a few days. It's WebKit-based, and Apple OS exclusive. First impressions are positive, although I haven't put it through its paces (check multi-device iCloud settings sync, push tabs to its limits, dig into exactly how it protects privacy by syncing through iCloud, etc). Would love to hear your thoughts on this, especially if anyone has tried it.

Out of the box, this browser purports to be more private than Safari, Firefox, Brave and Chrome (not exactly high bars to beat, except maybe Brave/Firefox?). The killer feature, however, is support for Chromium and Firefox extensions... on iOS/iPadOS. The two extensions I tried (AdNauseam and Youtube SponsorBlock) don't appear to work; at least their extension web pages don't appear to function. Not sure if that's intentional, or if I messed something up.

In any case, would love to see some feedback from the community here.

Nice progress! (lemmy.ca)

I just wanted to share some love and appreciation for the devs. The app is shaping up very nicely. I’m looking forward to what the future holds for this app.

Everytime I open it, I discover a new feature or tweak that puts a smile on my face. In particular, the latest beta on Testflight handles images and embeds very well. The WYSIWIM Markdown editor and preview tool is a very nice touch as well. Keep on trucking; you’re on the right path.

Would it be possible to allow users to select an icon they preferred in settings of the PWA? Rather than settle on one icon, it would be cool to have a selection to choose from.

Thank you! (lemmy.ca)

I sincerely hope this is OK to post here. If not, please accept my apologies and delete this post.

I just wanted to thank the devs of wefwef (soon to be Voyager) for their amazing work. I’m posting this from my own instance of wefwef. Aside from satisfying the nostalgia of Apollo (iOS Reddit client) to the incredibly polished experience (I find it hard to believe that wefwef is a PWA sometimes), I am really impressed.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
