I live cathartically through your epic backyard landscaping adventures, looking forward to the day I can go in on buying a house and bitta land with someone so I can potter around/go manic as needed (well as much as I can, considering I'll probably be arthritic by the time I can afford that).

Good for you but I am very attracted to those curly fries right now

β™‘ You got this, your parents are very lucky to have someone so switched on and conscientious as their son :)

I will probably be facing the same conversations in the next few years with the added bonus of both parents overseas and almost no-contact with one.

It's about a rough-around-the-edges casino worker who has the gift of always knowing if someone is lying, who finds herself caught up solving mysteries and murders while on the run. Directed by Rian Johnson so it's very visually appealing and slick but also has some very memorable characters and a sense of showbiz to it that I like, it's good fun.

It's on Apple TV in Australia I think, but I sail the fine seas for everything...

I'll be claiming my bond the second I hand my keys over. I can wait the two weeks if it means I don't need to do anything further and the landlord has to take it up to vcat if she wants to fight.

Yep pretty chuffed with today's efforts. Been sat in the car for 90 minutes doing crosswords, gonna haul myself back up home and go through some clothes then wind down with some Poker Face episodes.

I had to pour out two very old apple crumble ciders down the sink the other day when I was clearing out my pantry. Lockdown memories...

LL did finally get back and acknowledged receipt at least so she won't kick up a fuss about leaving early. Hasn't said yet how she wants to organise key handover but I don't really care, it's on her now. Just focusing on next steps. REA is pretty sloppy where I'm moving to so I gotta have my wits about. Still pretty chuffed I got away with paying the original listed rent thanks to their lack of attention to detail.

Some other big things I need to do are fill in some small holes where I'd put a blackout blind (relatives lent me spakfilla and a spatula) and try to remove some scratches in the toilet bowl.

Nice! I've probably got a few more things to flog that I wish I'd listed earlier this week so I could get them out on the weekend. If I can list them tonight I could still maybe get some takers tomorrow... at least I still have all of next week.

Mat is so awesome. I aspire to be like him

Gosh isn't it annoying when people make offers and then ghost you. Sucks when you could've just sold it to someone else

I saw your post but fell asleep before replying, just wanted to say it's a huge undertaking you're doing but you've got a very good head on you and I have faith you'll get through this next hard bit well even if it's gonna mean several hard conversations with your mum. Our favourite witch had some excellent suggestions. Feel free to vent here any time

Success!!! Got the big unwieldly couch dismantled with my friend's help both physically and mentally. Now I can hopefully get rid of it sooner and if there's no takers at least it's a helluva lot easier to move myself. That's a big ticket item cleared.

Next up, gotta keep culling and packing clothes... made a bit of a start this am, but I'll probably do most of it tomorrow. It's been a big day today with long chats, grabbing a coffee, going to Bunnings together, dismantling this couch in confused stages, going out for lunch, dropping friend home...

Do you think that might be heritage lichen?

What the absolute fuck? 20 months? I genuinely do believe rehabilitation can be possible for some pedophiles as opposed to just punishment, but this guy has zero remorse and for the degree of his offending...

I remember how big this was for a while - only for this bit of news to be buried with a short article. Surely the scale of infestation (resulting in the change in approach) is going to have significant impacts to pollinator-dependent agriculture?

I'm wary of how diluted "affordable housing" means. Bypassing Council, VCAT and third party appeals are very tasty prizes for developers and I'm sure plenty would manipulate the definition of "affordable housing" to get a ticket to far less planning oversight, especially with the low bar of entry at 50 million. More housing is desperately needed, and NIMBY pushback has definitely been an issue, but I really hope the homes will actually be affordable, and that the Vic government planners will enforce good quality design, not boundary to boundary grossness with no setbacks or green space.

Many people predicted this would happen...

What do you think? As a migrant myself I have to confess I'm not that on board with expecting aged parents to be part of the package when migrating over, even my own aunts and uncles who are currently going through the process via their own children.

However, it is cruel of the Australian government to keep providing "hope" and taking people's application fees when they have understandably little intention of increasing the aged migrant intake. I think they should cut the crap and stop offering these visas if reducing aged migrant intake is their intention. Just keep on the long term visit visas for parents, whack on a mandatory private health insurance clause if needed.
