Do wonder whether there will be trademark issues…

This, I wanted to join an instance with management I somewhat agreed with on matters of federation and had longevity. I didn’t want to join beehaw or lemmy.one for the first reason; and the others don’t really have the longevity to see how admins will react in certain cases.

I’m also of the understanding that the way other current federated protocols handle video is far from efficient, that google using activitypub for YouTube would be a nightmare.

You can on a lot of the apps, I know the app I use on iOS ‘Ice Cubes’ supports me following another instance, this isn’t the case for the official app/website however.

Regional servers are great, especially when it comes to regional laws and customs which people generally want applied (for example UK has quite strong Hate Crime laws, I’m sure DE does too).

I do think however, in early stages, I’d rather know who is running my instance and a few of their personal opinions. For example, are they going to defederate with an instance I quite like because of politics? We are really in early days here and these instances are very unstable whereas the mastodon instances have all been around with thousands of users for quite a time.

Oh god yeah, I’ve never ventured outside the mas.to local timeline (and a few hashtags and people in the replies). I assume there are vastly more funny local timelines with a few of the more shitposty or lgbt focused ones. Eh oh well.

Either it was supper overwhelming with meme posts or NSFW, or it was too chill to the point of nothing. Or, it was hyperfocused like FOSS/Linux and became uninteresting after awhile.

I’ve never been able to find the meme posts on mastodon, therein lies part of its core issues, federation makes discoverability iffy at best. It hasn’t yet reached mass yet.

Yeah, I think possibly people don’t like swift ui and how that all looks tbf. After moving to iOS from Android it is a little bland compared to Material You.
