I think you may be trivializing a pretty complex subject a bit too much

There is a major difference between our coloqual addictions (sugar, caffeine, our phones) and a substance use disorder. It's worth talking about where on that spectrum marijuana lies

For my part, I suspect that marijuana is much closer to the former than the latter.

I've worked with a lot of people in recovery over the years, and while some ex-stoners will tell you how hard it was for them to quit, anyone with a real habit will tell you quitting weed isn't anywhere near the same level as opiates, benzos, amphetamines, alcohol, or even nicotine

Between basic storage being so much larger than it used to be (the 4-8GB days were brutal) and USB-C flash drives that can plug into your charging port, I seldom miss them these days

Still sucks that they removed them as an option though

It's not so much hiding as glazing over. The fact that anyone would argue that the civil war was about 'states rights' should tell you how poorly we recall our history

I'll never forget reading a textbook in high-school that acknowledged the genocide of the Native Americans before quickly moving on to talk about how stately and wise the people who killed them were

It was due to their (our) open admission policy.

They wanted a more curated experience, and were concerned that our instances would be full of trolls and bots

That makes no sense. You think it's okay to deny service based on race?

Yeah, that's the way to do it.

There's a lot that's pretty funny, but their narratives about being the last bastion of freedom and enlightenment always rubbed me the wrong way

Kind of like how subbreddits and circlejerks often go hand in hand. Or how people here like to talk about how it's soooooo much better than reddit to the point that, no matter how you sort it, the front page is buried in posts saying the same thing

4chan is a great example of what places that consider free speech an indelible right will turn into

People who have the most vile and hostile opinions will flock there and push most of the reasonable people out

Talking to a band of brainwashed idiots who hide their hate behind a thin veneer pseudointellectualism gets old pretty fast and, as /pol/ likes to point out, those opinions color their view of reality and will seep into discussions of seemingly unrelated topics

Most of us don't want to have to deconstruct some non-sensical ideology every time we make a statement. They think this means their opinions are some hidden truth that we can't handle.

The reality is that we can prove them wrong, but they can't or won't accept it so we give up on them and go where there are more reasonable people to interact with

Agree and disagree. They put the cart before the horse on this one for sure. If we solve the problem of unaffordable education, then we can talk about forgiving the student loans of people who didn't get to benefit from the new system

Just forgiving the student loans of a seemingly random block of people makes no sense. The next generation and more importly the universities will expect us to do the same thing later. Guess what that means?

Schools will raise their prices even more and kids will take on even more debt. We can't just slap a bandaid on this and pat ourselves on the back

No gpu at all. It's an old corporate server I recycled

My server has a hard time with x265, they constantly stutter when I try to play them through jellyfin

*crying soy wojak* Noooooooooooo

I will drug and booze myself happy. Just because it's never worked before doesn't mean it won't work this time

Hey guys, new to brewing and this site. I made a gallon of mead that was... okay, and figured I'd try my hand at something that wouldn't take quite so long

So basically I just threw a gallon of apple juice and some yeast into a carboy and let it sit for a few weeks. I'm going to transfer it to bottles and try it out this weekend

I'm thinking about adding some sugar to the next one to get a higher abv. Any clue around how much I can add without having to wait a stupid amount of time for fermentation to finish?

Also does anyone have other recommendation to make it taste a little more interesting next time?

Sorry if there's already been an explanation or there's documentation I didn't read or whatever. I'm just curious how stuff works here

On reddit, the idea was to not use downvotes as a disagree button, but to use it for off topic/objectively false comments so fewer people would see/engage with them

Does voting contribute to sorting here as well? Should downvotes be used the same way, or does it function as a disagree button?
