That's a good question. Is your friend an evangelical Christian? A lot of people don't know this, but the actual biggest plurality of political Zionists in the US are not Jews, but Evangelical Christians who support Israel because they believe it is a chess piece in bringing about the end of the world (which is a good thing in their dogma).

They also happen to often like the idea of ethnofascism, which is a very sad state of affairs.

I know this is a dumb question, but is that based on anything? Like a paraphrase of something? Or just headcanon?

This is a weird thing to say, but I actually don't think that there's any indication that Harris or Trump would do anything substantially different with regard to Israel, but the biggest change is that if Trump wins, I suspect that coverage of this will disappear behind all the coverage of his domestic chaos. At least if Harris is president I think there is a chance we see the press maintain a modicrum of interest in covering this.

Either way, words can't describe my anger that Harris appears to be prepared to throw the election over her support for genocide. It is an unreal situation to watch.

This is actually a persistent myth: there is no evidence that they are beholden to a constituency that would punish them for any actions that curtail Israel.

Israel's actions are wildly unpopular across the electorate. They are unpopular with nearly all Democrats as well as most independents and a very large plurally of Republicans. I have seen numerous polls that show that there is a very significant number of voters that Harris is losing over this, and I have seen absolutely nothing to indicate that there is any measurable cost to her speaking out against Israel at all. Which is really sad. Because it means that this is absolutely a moral choice on her part. This is not an electoral choice at all.

There is a lot about this that is nuts, but one thing that really jumps out at me.

It seems like Netanyahu is planning an October surprise to shank Harris. And it seems like he is doing it in broad daylight. It certainly seems like a massive offensive strike on Iran one or two weeks before the election is a straightforward way to throw a close election to Trump.

But with this I have to ask: are Biden and Harris assisting with a plan that is clearly intended to cost Harris the election?

I want to say that they surely must've told Israel not to launch anything before election day. But based in their actions so far, it doesn't seem like they're imposing a "no election interference against us personally" requirement as a condition of their assistance.

I guess we'll see.

I think that as someone else pointed out, this is just a reflection of their tastes.

In a long running series like this, it's not surprising that when every show is trying to find new conceptual territory, someone would go this way.

[–] andrewrgross 3 points 1 month ago

You know, this seems like the kind of thing people should hear from his primary opponent.

This tool is like a piece of dark comedy.

It's like someone made a robot of Jonathan Greenblatt.

Beep! Booop! This article is describing direct genocidal intent expressed by Israeli commanders! Calculating false information... 100%: if this information were true, it would mean Israel is committing genocide, which cannot be. Calculating bias: 100%: a reasonable observer would conclude Israel is the aggressor and Palestinian civilians are clearly their victims, which is an uncomplicated premise and cannot be! Antisemitism confirmed! (Initiating drone strike....)

[–] andrewrgross 21 points 1 month ago

Agreed.

This plan is forced displacement, ethnic cleansing, and annexation via mass extermination.

This is horrifying. And it cuts both ways: these generals are drowning what is left of Israel's credibility, international goodwill, and social fabric. They're killing two countries.

That looks very pretty. How old is the kid?

Can I offer some constructive critique?

This meme is getting downvoted because it is both a fairly dumb concept but also a very unsatisfying execution.

You need to take your idea and communicate it in a meme response. It could be a meme representing confusion or sarcasm, but adding "Breaking New..." as bottom text is really not going to go well even if everyone thought your opinion was good.

Guess what?

A GM play tester posted this on the Discord, and I'm very excited by this feedback. I think it's a great testimonial to share, and also a confirmation of our overall approach. Making the game system-flexible was a priority, so I'm really glad to hear that it works in actual use that way.

@andrewrgross when I joined this discord like half a year ago or more, you asked me to share my thoughts on the game. I have finally had a chance to play. Or well, a completely overhauled version of the game, so I'm not sure if my thoughts are still worth much, but here it goes.

I read the entire setting and came up with some more details for my own region, the Netherlands. I found some friends in my neighbourhood and we played in our own neighbourhood in the year 2124. Most were new to rpgs in general. I used my own monstrous homebrew mechanics that are a mix of Pathfinder2e and Powered by the Apocalypse, but extremely rules-lite. I made some pregens heavily inspired by the pregens in this game but turned to a more Dutch setting. I also came up with my own one-shot adventure about finding a missing sabretooth tiger (scientists were restoring extinct animals, not sure if I made that up or if it was in the setting already), including a neurodive/skidoo in a sabretooth tiger.

All players absolutely had a blast. The new players had some trouble thinking of what was possible, but they asked a lot of questions and were very enthousiastic of being able to do anything. Two players were DnD veterans, but they really enjoyed the light tone of the setting. The light atmosphere was not a downside, as there was still tension (would they be able to find the tiger in time? would the neurodive go wrong?). We even had some combat in neurospace, which was just resolved like any other encounter and more freeform. I explained that a cyberdeck to the players was just like what a smartphone would be like for someone from 1924, and they got really creative with it, contacting their social media followers and looking up information, etc.

We will probably turn it into a campaign, and next time they will make their own characters. For me as a GM, the whole setting really came alive from the rulebook. I think I will make the campaign about extinct animals being brought back.

We've released the game on itch.io!

Next, we need to post it on DriveThruRPG. But after 18 months, it seems we're finally ready to release!

Stay tuned as we release our many files across locations in preparation to begin promoting the game!

I work for a large biotech manufacturer doing field work. I -- and thousands of other field engineers -- are assigned company cars, which are all ICEs.

I have pointed out in the past that this is a mistake: we should at the very least, allow the engineers the choice to select an electric car from the options provided.

The fleet management team tested this out, but ultimately passed up on the option, because they wanted to shift towards reimbursing drivers instead of managing the fleet. They argued that this met everyone's needs, including allowing employees to drive electric if they want to buy one.

I think this is a big mistake: most people still find the transition complicated when shopping personally, but fleet program can manage a large number of vehicles purchasing, insurance, and maintenance much better, and is better equipped to help people get home chargers if they want. They literally piloted this exact program, and then chose not to expand it.

I want to contact relevant parties and try to assertively communicate that in this moment, we should all be in a war footing. This is an absolute crisis, and the company is clearly looking at simple options to do its part and leaving them unused because it's not aligned with their preferred proposal.

Can anyone help me collect up the shortest, most direct sources to share a five minute slide deck that says, "WAKE THE F*** UP! ROLL OUT THE PLAN YOU ALREADY SET UP AND TESTED, THIS IS AN EMERGENCY, PEOPLE!"

If anyone has seen the character Voidstar in the premades and wasn't aware, this YouTuber/Streamer is the real-life guy Voidstar is based on.

Antagonist "Gehirnwäsche" (Brainwash)

Cinnamon Telosa, attorney

The Trypnotist

Blind concert promoter Kellsey Vanezulla

In one encounter, the players are attacked by a squad of mysterious masked shock troops of some kind. Here is the cyberpunky look I gave them, along with distinct face plates meant to give the characters a way to easily distinguish and describe them.

Here are the other three:

We've got a wiki now! (wiki.slrpnk.net)

Big thanks to @poVoq@slrpnk.net for setting us up with a wiki!

Right now, this is just a repository for game assets. Maps needed to run the first campaign can be easily found on this wiki, along with some other useful files.

If the game happens to be successful enough to inspire people to share their own stories, maps, and other content, this wiki could provide an invaluable central repository of any independently generated content. We'll see.

For now though, I'm really grateful to have such a resource. Again, @poVoq, thanks!

This is Deiter Gerhardt, aka "Mentok the Mindtaker!"

Mentok is a primary antagonist in our first collection of adventures. He picked his nom de hack by looking through a list of mind-controlling supervillains from classical literature and chose Mentok because he didn't really understand the contemporary context of who Mentok the Mindtaker is.

I give great thanks to @jackgross@slrpnk.net for this fantastic portrait.

This article describes the little-reported on success that Brown University had in disbanding student protest... by conceding to let activists present a case for divestment at an upcoming hearing before the university's investment board.

There's a lot of interesting considerations. The university did not agree to drop charges against forty students for rule violations, but the charged students themselves voted to accept the agreement under the belief that the overall offer was worth their own sacrifices.

Overall, I personally think this shows the irresponsibly unreported fact that negotiation with a protest IS an option that can serve the interests of both sides far better than state violence.

I commented on a post about the book "The Lost Cause", then followed up to mention that our game's setting is built on a similar vision to author Cory Doctorow's in that book. I communicated that we hope our game appeals to a similar audience. And Cory Doctorow saw this, and shared it with his followers!

Cory Doctorow has now officially heard of us, and apparently vibes with our general concept!
