Agreed, I set up an account on Mastodon when everyone first left Twitter (not that I use Twitter much either) but didn't understand the fediverse back then. I wish there was a way to see if anyone I follow is on Mastodon but I guess that functionality went with the APIs.

I checked one of the 5-star reviews, at the end:

That being said, it's nothing amazing. It's just fine, it does what it does. I have nothing against it.

High praise indeed.

I followed a few different Aussie subs so it's nice having them all in one place now.

Yeah good point about the hardware. It's been well over a decade since I played with Ubuntu and a few others so the support has probably improved a lot by now.

This seems odd to me, I've dabbled with Linux before but I'm generally a macos guy where the os is the free bit. Charging for an os is outdated surely?

I mentioned it on r/GA but didn't get a response, happy to have one here!

Nice work! I had no idea what I was doing with Lemmy, but I went on r/Australia all the time so this was an obvious choice to sign up to, so glad I did.

I jumped ship from Emby to Jellyfin a long time ago. Just looked at their site now: "Purchase Emby Premiere and receive additional bonus features such as Cover Art, Mobile Sync, Cloud Sync, and free Android apps." Pretty sure you get all that in Jellyfin already.

I'm a huge sci-fi fan and love the idea of a sci-fi server with communities for books, tv shows, etc to rehouse places like r/scifi, r/TheExpanse and r/SiloSeries. But as dev as I am I don't fancy running a server and being a super mod.

It's pretty interesting so far! I'm coming from Reddit Sync and now using Jerboa so it's quite similar but also a lot of things aren't where I expect them 😆

I do web dev and UX so definitely agree with the onboarding process being a little clunky for users.

I had no idea what the fediverse was until Lemmy so getting your head around it can be a bit much at the start. I was lucky to find a local server (instance? Not sure on terminology) so no delay issues.

And for any newbies this link is very helpful: https://browse.feddit.de.

I do miss the size of Reddit at times, but that's likely to drop now anyway with all the buggering around they're doing.
