That was Israel when they decided to initiate a genocide.

They blew up the pagers without knowing where they would be, who they would be next to, or who would be holding them. That's how the children died. It was really cool how cyberpunk it was, but it wasn't precisely targeted at all. It's like blowing up a city bus because you're pretty sure a Hezbollah member is in it but don't care about collateral damage at all.

Nice! I'll have to look into this. I love physical books but I'm running out of space 😭

[–] WanderingVentra@lemm.ee 5 points 10 hours ago (7 children)

In this analogy it's just a city bus. They killed civilians with this attack, I'm not sure if you realize. Unless you think the 10 year old girl was a hardened Hezbollah soldier.

And yes, it's better, but not good. Especially since they're not even at war with Lebanon right now. They're just trying to expand the conflict to keep the US in a forever war to justify their genocide and so Netanyahu never has to account for his crimes.

Do e-readers work with pdfs? I have various DnD books I've bought online and I'd love to be able to store them on one easily carry able device.

Dropping smaller bombs that kill innocents is still terrorism. It's not like it's okay if I blow up a bus just because I blew up a building last week.

It's how I feel about Shang Chi. If they could've pulled off a better ending, it would be one of my top Marvel movies, but the let down of another big magic slinging CGI filled fight pushed it below my to 5 when I watched it (though it's probably still in my too 10).

It's like something from Cyberpunk 2077 lol.

[–] WanderingVentra@lemm.ee 16 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Dude they injured thousands of people and killed children and health care workers. This is 100% terrorism. I guess it's a better than the active genocide they're doing though, so it's a low bar.

There's no been proof that Tik Tok sends all the data to China or that China manipulates the algorithm. In fact, to appease the US before, they agreed to let Oracle and a purely US subsidiary look at all their code and data and content moderation. Oracle would spot check the data flows and where it goes. Tik Tok would report to Committee on Foreign Investment in the US on everything, even hiring practices. And a 2021 study found Tik Tok didn't really collect data beyond the norm of other players in the industry, or beyond what it said it did in it's policy.

Most of the claims by a Tik Tok whistleblower that alleged otherwise seem to be from one guy mad at being fired who's made wild claims, like Merrick Garland instigated his firing, and he only worked there for 6 months.

All this scaring is literally just because politicians are scared that people in Gaza can use it to report what's happening to themselves during the genocide, without the blatant censorship of American companies on the issue. Even Romney admitted that's the reason. I don't actually use Tik Tok and I think it's algorithms are bad for our ADHD addled brains, but I would also apply that to YouTube shorts and Instagram stories. They should all be regulated, not banned. Hell, we actually could use more foreign companies that aren't vulnerable to US censorship, not the opposite. This is especially important since reporters aren't being let in Gaza and the ones who are are killed. And we'll probably lose it once they finish their restructuring in Project Texas, although sounds like they'll be banned before they do.

Greta just keeps getting cooler and cooler.

It's that spooky time of year again! Anyone here have thoughts about the big scary amusement park events in the area?

Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights vs
Six Flags Fright Fest vs
Knotts Scary Farm

For people who enjoy these scary, fun events, which do you prefer most? Are there other Halloween events in Los Angeles you prefer more (Los Angeles Haunted Hay Ride or Queen Mary's Dark Harbour, for example)?

USGS says it's 4.7, so going with that despite it being different from the LA Times headline.

What I think I know : They tried to take a picture at Arlington National Cemetery, but couldn't? There was a physical altercation maybe? But the Trump campaign said there wasn't?

Is there more to this? Can someone explain to me the context of how this is a scandal?

Like I hate Trump but I don't understand why this is a big deal. It doesn't seem to involve the man personally, just some staffers who had an argument with a cemetery worker, and seems like small potatoes compared to other scandals he's had. Is it because of how sacred the cemetary is, or did they get into an actual fist fight, or did Trump personally interfere in some way?

4.7 in South Pasadena.

Anyone else feel it?

I'd love a Nature is Fucking Lit community over here on Lemmy. I just saw the cutest post on Reddit there and I'd love to spread it or see it over here. (I look at reddit without a profile while at my work computer sometimes, don't judge me lol).

Think I should post it to the lemmy.world one to revive that one? Looks like that hasn't been active in a few months.

I also wonder if it's better to use this opportunity when it's possibly dead to revive the community somewhere else? Like maybe mander.xyz since nature is connected to science or something? Or maybe the solar punk instance? Is there a better place someone can think of or should we stick to the Lemmy.world one?

What do people think?

I'm considering buying some extra storage space for my PS5. Last time I was out of town, my partner tried to play a game and they couldn't, because I deleted it to make room. They went to download it but it was out of space, so of course they didn't want to delete anything. That makes me sad because I want to encourage them to use it and game lol.
Plus, I think it would make it easier rather than always downloading and deleting things.

Have other people bought extra storage for PS5? What kind would you recommend?

Do you go for internal or external? Do you have the heat sink if an internal one? Is 4TB enough or overkill? I think I saw that amount somewhere once (unless I imagined it) but maybe 1 or 2 TB is good, and probably easier to find.

We're looking at movies to watch for Father's Day and my dad has already watched most of the ones out right now, so that eliminates the ones I want to see (Furiosa, The Fall Guy) and he's not interested in Planet of the Apes. That basically leaves the Watchers.

Anyone see it yet and have any opinions on it? Going either way to spend time with my father, but want to know how low to set my mind expectations lol.

I've been seeing her name a lot lately in terms of good science fiction and fantasy. I feel like I've lost so much attention span in terms of my ability to read and stuff and I'd like to start getting back into it, perhaps starting with her (or Terry Pratchett lol).

If I start with her, what's a good place to start with her work?

I know they're posting diss tracks against each other, but I'm not sure why? What made this start? And how was J. Cole involved? And how has this feud evolved so far?

I feel so out of the loop on this one! All I see is reaction images of the songs and Kendrick destroying Drake, but without the context of why they were posted, I'm still confused.
