Mariette Lindsteins "Pako Kultista" (or Lång väg hem Mina 25 år i sekten) that tells of her life in the scientology cult, almost finished it. Couldn't find if it had an English translation. It's chilling to listen to how the members are thoroughly abused, controlled and forced to become husks of themselves.

Apple TV most certainly collects information too...

Google looks to be fully shutting down unsupported extensions and ad blockers in Chrome, such as uBlock Origin – which might push some folks to switch to Firefox in c/technology@lemmy.world

Not really. Ads aren't gonna dissappear, with Mozillas tech, they'd at least be more private than what Google will implement.

You're not wrong. One spy is better than 1+x spies, especially if that one spy is well controlled with regulation. Better than bad is still not necessarily good.

Our far right is great at TikTok, and their algorithm seems to favor far right talking points greatly.

Use it every single day on my Zenfone. Have bunch of headphones to use with it too.

Why is everything in consumer / American life so fucking shitty now - and companies literally just say 'oh bc profit margins' and we're now expected to swallow that and sympathize? in c/asklemmy@lemmy.ml

Competition goes way down when all the different companies are owned by a very small set of huge companies. And for these companies it's easy to setup cartels and just simply not compete and jack up the prices. Competition happens when the companies must make a profit or die, not when conglomerates can trust that they're the only game in town.
