This is a pretty solid app, and I have no regrets purchasing this one.

Is there a reason apps that access file system are getting pushy about having notifications enabled though? I've seen it on a few different apps and solid explorer is especially annoying if you don't enable notifications. It basically gives you 2 prompts urging you to enable notifications every time you move files. The file transfer works perfectly fine without the notifications from what I can see. This has caused me to use a lesser file management app in the meantime. I just don't understand why a file manager HAS to have notifications I guess.

I sent the dev an email about it, but it got ignored.

You just hate to see it.

If you use the voyager app they have an option to migrate subreddits using your multireddit. It basically parses the multireddit and allows you to quickly search for communities that match your old subs. It gives you directions to do it. I found it very helpful.

Agreed. Apples stance on privacy is more about PR and keeping ad competitors at a disadvantage on their platform than actual privacy. Only reason they might not fall in line is if they feel there is enough public opposition to it to get some PR and make Google look bad. Not too optimistic on that though since most people are oblivious to the issue.

Going from memory, people started posting the HD-DVD decryption key and Digg started removing all references to it to comply with take down orders.

There was a fair amount of controversy around it.

They have been diminishing 3rd party launchers with various updates already. Multitasking gestures broke various things and didn't work well with third party launchers - I think the animations still don't work. The toolbar they added for foldables and tablets only works with the built in launcher. The last one sucks because Samsung made one for the Fold prior to that which was launcher agnostic (was better too imo).

That said, things are still pretty great and it's one thing I hope they never kill off as it allows a crazy amount of customization and personalization. Without it, fuck me might as well get an Apple (well maybe not).

Denying Chinese citizens entry into Russia is "brutal" and "excessive" but bombing schools and hospitals is OK. Just China things.

Kagi has been great. I'd like to see more searches on their $5 plan as 300 searches a month doesn't feel adequate. It has been great being able to promote, demote, and block sites from searching and I have found my results to be more helpful and relevant than Google alternatives I tried. I don't think I have used Google search at all since signing up. Highly recommend.

They address this on their website and go in further detail on their privacy policy. You'd have to read through that to decide if they do enough to earn your trust. But in my opinion not having any advertising removes most of their incentive to try to collect user data. I suppose there could be a temptation to collect the data to resell, but since a large portion of their income relies on the reputation of being a search alternative that has a focus on privacy I feel the risk to their reputation would be greater than whatever revenue that would generate.

Of course there are all kinds of companies that flew too close to the sun and sold out user privacy for a Coke and a smile. I've decided to go with Kagi and have been very happy with them so far. If they ever sell out I'll cash out, but they seem to be the best option for me right now.

Wouldn't Textra be able to implement the MLS standard and then do E2EE through that protocol? I'm probably not understanding it very well.

Would this be a pathway for android texting apps like Textra to add chat support to other rcs users? It appears Google isn't going to open the RCS API.
