Agreed. I love the Halo games but their stories unedited wouldn’t make a great TV show. The TV show we got wasn’t great either…it could’ve been better, but it was fine overall. The action scenes were particularly good, I thought. That’s when it felt the most like Halo. Probably because Halo is primarily a guy in a big suit shooting aliens.

The desert planet stuff with what’s her name was way too much though, definitely need much less of that if there’s a season 2.

I remember clearly that someone brought an Apple II to my preschool. This would be early/mid 80’s. It had a color monitor and they showed off some maze running math game (probably Number Munchers or something like that), but for some reason what really grabbed my little 3 (4?) year old mind was just this simple graphical program that displayed multicolored <<< shapes that lined up and spiraled outwards. I remember thinking, “hey it looks like my living room rug!”

But that’s when I realized that there was this magic box under the monitor. It was covered in buttons AND IT LET YOU CONTROL WHAT WAS SHOWING ON THE TV!! It set my little brain on fire and I’ve been hooked ever since.

I don’t know, I’ve enjoyed Fallout ever since the first one and I’m looking forward to the show. It’s not like they have to follow a specific storyline from the games, just a new story in an established setting. Should be easy enough. If it’s good, more people will get into Fallout. If it’s bad, oh well, the games are still there.

I just finished playing through the demo. It’s clearly a labor of love for this small team. Great stuff!

I was basically in the same boat. I didn’t have a PC powerful enough to run Quake 2 well at the time. I could do Quake 1, and played the hell out of it, but Q2 was a complete slideshow. By the time I was able to upgrade it was Half-Life days, so Q2 multiplayer will always be a missing chunk of PC FPS history for me.

As a kid in the 80’s I used to get up super early on Saturdays to catch the cartoons. I’d always make sure to tape Pee-Wee’s Playhouse for my siblings, who were teenagers at the time and thus tended to sleep in. Being so much older than me, my siblings and I never had a lot of crossover in our interests. Pee-Wee was always one thing we could all agree on, though. So I’d watch Playhouse at least twice every Saturday…once on my own and then again with my brother and sister. Great times.

I was a weird kid and Pee-Wee not only showed that being weird was okay, but that it could be celebrated. Thanks for that, Paul Reubens.

Just this week I got a pair of Edifier W240TN earbuds. About $70 on Amazon. The sound quality is good (I’m not a complete audiophile but I’ve had some crappy earbuds in the past…these are better than any I’ve had). The noise canceling is okay, not as good as my headphones, but that’s okay.

But I realize that’s not what you’re asking about. They have a “low latency game mode”, advertised as “80 ms”. I was able to pair them with my Steam Deck fairly easily and had to change the button assignment in the app ahead of time, but I tried the game mode and it actually worked pretty well. I’m pretty sensitive to audio latency, but I was impressed with them. They might not cut it for high end play on rhythm games, but swinging around on Spider-Man felt good to me. I watched a cutscene and the dialogue matched up well enough to not be distracting. They might be worth a look.

Almost every episode of Raised By Wolves, especially the second season when things got REAL bonkers. Man, I miss that show.

Basically a flat piece of wood or plastic that can hold your keyboard and mouse, with some kind of cushion attached underneath so that it comfortably sits on your legs. I got this one last year to help with working from home in a comfy chair and it’s been pretty great (Amazon link)…

For me, probably Half-Life 2. Especially at the time? It was such a leap ahead in both technology and overall world immersion. I still revisit it sometimes and get sucked right back in.

I’ll agree with you on Beatles Rock Band too, though. It’s a work of art.
