Dark Souls: should I pick up I or III?

For context, I never got into DS until I played Elder Scrolls, which I've been obsessed with

How are Canada's wildfires "Americans destroying themselves?"

Good ol "not all Trumpists, covid conspiracy theorists, and anarcho-capitalists are fascists, but all fascists are Trumpists, covid conspiracy theorists, and anarcho-capitalists."

Agreed. Private-owned AI competing against humans for limited jobs in a capital based market is a nightmare.

Public-owned AI producing and providing for all is not.

AI was trained on the work of millions and is inhuman in its productive capabilities. It has no business being private owned

No application! In a couple days I'll be looking through users who are interested. Just looking at engagement, interactions, age of accounts, etc. So if you have a reddit account you can link to that would be helpful but overall nothing rigorous. We're a small community after all :)

There's controversy over whether VPN + TOR is a good combo. Some say it's an added layer of anonymity, others say it could be decreasing anonymity because your VPN could be logging your traffic. Some also say the two don't mesh well. But honestly the juries out so everyone should probably come to their own conclusion

Made a post linking to r/piracy and r/freemediaheckyeah's backups hosted on NotABug and Rentry. Here. If that's not what you had in mind then all good, I'll just leave it there

Oh that's not too bad of a workaround, thank you so much!

r/piracy has a great megathread of resources that we could copy over or borrow from. I just hate to have to go there for such a comprehensive list of resources. And I'd hate it even more to see it all be turned to the wind if Reddit decides to crush it under their heal.

Edit: Went ahead and linked to the r/piracy and r/freemediaheckyeah megathread backups here

Also, how do I safely download from these sites?

I thought there was a mirror on lemmy for r/piracy's spectacular megathread but I don't see it. Rough guides from a semi-noob:

Direct download:

  1. TOR with Ublock Origin add-on

  2. After downloading your file, upload it to virustotal.com and scan it. If it passes you're probably pretty safe.

Torrent:

  1. Find and your file magnet in TOR.

  2. Turn on VPN.

  3. Open qbittorrent with your connection bound to your VPN's network.

  4. Paste your magnet link when it prompts you and download.

  5. Once it's done downloading, upload it to virustotal to scan it.

The issue is that some instances are having trouble federating. It took me a while to find my small community from lemmy.world - and when I did the upvotes and comments were all incorrect (many not showing up). Checked on beehaw and couldn't even find my community

The blackouts may encourage users to go elsewhere, and going elsewhere may help move the needle on this issue. But, the only thing that's going to stop reddit from going down the path it's on is stopping the IPO. Let's face it, any short-term victories will eventually be overcome by shareholder interests.

Plus, protestors leaving the site might actually help reddit at this point. Redditors are notoriously cantankerous and difficult to advertise to. But, it's becoming less so as mainstream users flock in. As protestors leave the site, the userbase becomes increasingly saturated with apathetic users who are willing to put up with more.

And let's be honest. Reddit has a lot of users who feel entitled to entertainment enough to get angry, but addicted enough to put up with it. Look at just about any fandom

I think we'd all like to see this community come to life. And an important part of a successful community is a good group of well-intended mods.

I've modded just a tiny bit on reddit and I'm pretty new here, and mostly active sporadically throughout weekdays. So, as this community continues to grow it would be nice to have some other mods to help out where they can and want. The workload is practically nonexistent rn, but with any luck this community will one day thrive.

So, comment, ping me, message me, what have you, if you're interested. Lmk any experience you may have on here or reddit (if so, link to your reddit account if you don't mind), or just lmk what makes you want to be a mod of this community. That way we can find great mods for a great community!

Thanks for reading! Keep exploring every impossibility :)

As the transition from reddit begins I'd really like to see this community come alive like r/worldbuilding. Is moderation here still active, or do we need a new community?
