Oooh that sounds interesting! I’m making my grandma’s cinnamon raisin braided bread later this week. She always made it for Easter, so now I do too.

Cool! I imagine it makes the house smell even more delicious as the cinnamon toasts. Also honey in the egg wash sounds delicious.

Yum! Is the cinnamon mixed throughout the dough or rolled into the center of each “string” in the braid?

It’s the only way I’ve ever done socks. I admire people who have the willpower/drive to make a 2nd sock after the first one’s completely done, I know I’d just have a bunch of single socks.

Good luck with your socks! They’re one of my favorite things to knit.

pair of socks Knitting a pair of socks for my spouse.

It’s from a single skein of yarn that goes from light gray to gray to black. I split the skein up so both socks would end up being the same gray on the leg part, but it’s taking longer to get to the gray than I’d planned so they may have a pair of mismatched socks.

Edit: I can’t html tonight

lol I can see that. They’re meant to be hoagie sized but some ballooned more than others. Here’s what they looked like when made into sandwiches but I don’t know if that makes the size perspective any better.

Edit: fixing the link text

Vultures are some of my favorite animals (right up there with owls). I find them to be rather clever. One rehab place I worked at had child-proof locks on the cabinets because a resident (non-releasable) turkey vulture liked to break into them and “rearrange” the items.

I never worked with bats but I was always on alert when cleaning bird areas with the birds roosting above me. The parrot family especially, some of them seemed to be aiming for me lol.

Good on ya for recognizing a passion and taking steps to involve it in your life. Any rehab place would be lucky to have you.

If you have a wildlife rehab place near you, you could volunteer there. You won’t get to be around the animals much until you’ve been there a while but even just observing intakes and exams you could gain more scientific knowledge. Owls suffer car collisions somewhat frequently.

As a side note, yet another reason not to throw your garbage out of your car, even things like apple cores and banana peels - it attracts mice and other rodents, which then draws the owls to hunt along the side of the road.

True but it’s usually a quick cloud with a paw sticking out here and there. At least, that’s what cartoons taught me.

Good. Less fighting and more head scritches.

[–] ChaosCoati@midwest.social 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

That is such a neat gift! Hopefully you made one for yourself as well.

Oof been there. Finished my first pair (toe ups), went to put them on, and found out I had done the bind off too tight and they couldn’t fit over my heel.
