Most people can’t draw hands and then there’s this guy with a chainsaw

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 17 points 5 months ago

Just so the other guy could call it a palm tree

Drawing realistic hands is incredibly difficult for most artists. This is a big part of the reason cartoon characters have gloved and/or non-human hands.

Even modern AI is all thumbs.

But this dude is fucking carving them with chainsaws.

We had a massage parlor in my town that had a tree trunk carved into a hand holding a heart.

It was actually really cool until someone hit it with a pickup.

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

That sounds cool minus the truck part

Was it a heart shape or heart organ, also was it carved like this tree or like carved into with the whole tree still standing

Why am I so interested in this

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It was 🤎 shaped and it was carved just like this, only it was much closer to the ground. It was also done in a way that it looked like the heart was being gently held.

The whole thing was maybe 8ft tall.

Honestly thinking about it now I took it's beauty for granted. To me it was just a normal feature of our town. Looking back it was an incredible feat of skill and an amazing work of art.

I honestly wish I had a picture.

I mean for better or for worse we “tune out” and normalize stuff through repeated exposure, I think it’s cool that you saw it enough for it to be a part of that process

If I were in your shoes I’d probably see this as bitter sweet because even though it’s gone you can now appreciate it once more

Did the tree get weirdly wider at the hand section or was it carved from a seperate tree and placed on the stump? The hand is much wider than the narrower trunk.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago

Maybe the thumb was a branch?

[–] Johanno@feddit.de 1 points 5 months ago

If you look at it the arm is cut smaller than the trunk. So it looks a lot smaller than it actually was. And probably there was a branch where the thumb is, because even with the 30 cm more it ain't enough for that thumb.

A bit conceited to carve it into a human hand. I feel like a more appropriate tribute for the tree would have been to carve it into a tree.

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 1 points 5 months ago

The tree to the right tried, but had trouble operating the chainsaw

"Chainsaw Artist" what a title

[–] Aux@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

I've noticed that people in Britain love carving. Many woods and forests have all kinds of carved trees. Some are very simple and some are absolute masterpieces like this one.

Why enjoy the natural beauty of a thing when you can bukkake your ego all over it?
