Keep is an app my wife and i use quite a bit and would love to find an alternative on iOS (if there is also an Android app that would be a huge plus, our son has an Android)

I'm not familiar, can you explain a bit more about what it is and what you use it for, maybe it might help folk to give suggestions.

Apple Notes, syncs across the apple eco system and has the option for collaboration.

I think Apple Notes may be the change we make. Everything else i am seeing is trying to incorporate google docs and a lot of other things into a sticky note app.

Go for it! It’s not as feature rich as the competitors but once you get the hang of it and have a routine it’s great. There’s also no additional cost. Others oftentimes have a premium subscription tier.

My wife and I use it for all of our lists / notes. They can be shared between us and you can be notified of changes. It’s been super convenient

How good is Apple compared to Google or Microsoft?

I went from Keep to Joplin and eventually to Obsidian.

My partner and I use Google keep as well, and finding a replacement has proven difficult. There doesn't seem to be an easy drop-in replacement.

  • There's Carnet, but it doesn't allow multiple people to collaborate on a note and it's not on iOS.

  • There's Joplin which is way more complicated than it needs to be as a Google keep replacement, and has some limited collaboration options, but no real-time collaboration.

  • And there's etherpad, which is web based, so you don't need any apps. It has full realtime collaboration support, and "notes" are easy and quick to spin up. The major downsides are a lacking mobile interface and that each person will have to keep track of the various etherpad links.

If anyone has a better solution, I'd love to hear it.

EDIT: I forgot about the Etherpad MyPads plugin which can be used to create a "Google drive"-esque experience with Etherpad. This would be a decent cross between Google keep, Google docs, and Google drive, but it's still not a perfect keep replacement. An example of this setup can be found here: https://mypads.domainepublic.net/?/login

I've been using Notesnook for my daily needs right now. The app provide e2ee and can sync between device. It's available on almost every major platform.

Onenote is a game changer. Works on all devices and web.

Is it in any way better than keep? I don't really see an advantage in handing my data to microsoft rather than google

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It literally fits what you asked for. All platforms, web, etc. You didn't mention anything about your data.

It's a massive notebook, way more features than keep, which I also use, but fits what you asked for perfectly.

Could try Evernote also.

I am not OP.

It may fit the idea of degoogling in law, but not spirit. In pretty much any of the reasons you might want to degoogle, microsoft is no better than it here. You are falling for the same carrot again, to feel the same stick of monetization whenever microsoft decides they have grown that product enough. All the while feeding the same data into the same profile of you held by the same information brokers to mess you up now or later in all the ways information that should never have been public may.
I'm sure the extra features are nice though

Evernote seems nice, for basic notes I can also recommend nextcloud, which you might have already and where the fact notes are saved as files also grants you more freedom to use them with random tools or scripts, if you so whish

Joplin is an option but may have more features that you do not need and you can pay for Joplin Cloud if you want to share notes with others.

Mavinote appears to be Android only. Checking out standardnote.

[–] jodawznev@sh.itjust.works -3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Keep is also a Progressive Web App (PWA) which means you should be able to install it from your browser's menu, without needing a native app and irrespective of your phone's OS (iOS or Android).

Just go to https://keep.Google.com and then check if your browser menu has an "Install" option.

I just realized what community this was in, my suggestion would defeat the purpose. Nevermind.

[–] nocturne213@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I already have keep installed, I am looking for a non Google alternative.
