Every single headline about this aid distribution should just read "US still somehow taking orders from nation that only exists because of their support."

The idea that Isreal can block the US from just driving aid over the border is insane. The idea that Isreal can dictate any terms to the US is insane. If the US actually pulled all support, Isreal would be fucked, and they know it. But the US government keeps throwing up its hands and acting like Isreal has them over a barrel.

Magic Jesus says that we have to support Israel in genociding Muslims. Delusion is on tap.

[–] Eyck_of_denesle@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 months ago

It's funny because jesus never even said that but people always do anything to be part of prophecies. Idk if they read their books but the end of the times they are trying to be a part of isn't really a pleasant period to be in.

Israel will use this as an excuse to reduce the number of trucks coming in to zero.

This article doesn't say "but distribution blocked" anywhere, that is OP's invention. They only started receiving shipments today. The article quotes a "US aid chief" as saying other land crossings and humanitarian corridors are still needed in addition to this pier.

The Associated Press, however, quoted an unnamed UN official as saying distribution of the shipment had not begun as of Friday afternoon.

The Guardian changes titles more frequently than you change underwear.

It isn't "OP's invention" at all, it's the article's title at the time of first publication. Here is the Guardian announcing the article under its original title.

Maybe spend 5 seconds on a basic search before you accuse people of stuff.

Given that the article says the aid will still have to go through an Israeli checkpoint in order to be sent north (where the worst famine is) I will be amazed if the small amount of aid scheduled to come through this pier doesn't suffer the same distribution blockages as other aid.

No problem. Dump them into Libyan slave markets.

This will free up the pier for more able bodied workers, err i mean, refugees.

Think about beauty of it. The Barbary Pirates of North Africa were targeting US trade during Thomas Jefferson term in office. Forcing the formation of the US Navy.

The US can get back to being ol' friends with them.

And come back history wise full circle

So if the Israelis block the aid their weapons packages should also be blocked, right? Not that the US should’ve given them in the first place, but if they’re not gonna let humanitarian aid in, then I guess we should just give the bombs to Palestine

[–] NoIWontPickAName@kbin.earth 3 points 6 months ago

That’s who Israel wants to give them to already.

Absolutely no one saw this coming

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The White House national security spokesperson, John Kirby, confirmed on Friday that truckloads of humanitarian aid, including food from the United Arab Emirates, sent by ship from Cyprus, had been unloaded on the Gaza coast and handed over to the control of the UN.

The head of the US Agency for International Development (USAid), Samantha Power, said the US would use the sea route to deliver “metric tons of life-saving aid, including nutrient rich food to support thousands of Gaza’s most vulnerable children and adults; and critical supplies such as plastic sheeting for shelter, jerry cans to hold clean water, and hygiene kits”.

But, Power added: “The pier that opened today does not replace or substitute for land crossings into Gaza, every one of which needs to operate at maximum capacity and efficiency.

Although the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have yet to launch an attack on the centre of Rafah, the UN said on Friday that nearly 640,000 people had been displaced from the city, many of them going north to Deir al-Balah, where, it said, conditions were “dire”.

The maritime route involves shipments of aid being inspected by Israel at the Cypriot port of Larnaca, then transported by large ships to a floating dock a few kilometres off the Gaza coast.

The US national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, is expected to travel to Saudi Arabia on Saturday for talks with the crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, followed by a stop in Israel for a meeting with the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
