"The US Commerce Department has played booster and concierge to the firearm industry, even as America’s mass shootings horrify the world and gun-crime rates rise in many of the importing countries."

I think it would be good to mention the source (bloomberg.com) when linking to archive.org.

There's literally Vice docs on YouTube where they talk to the cartel and every single member is like yeah we love the US' gun laws. It makes easy af for them to get weapons.

Not sure America has a monopoly on violence.

[–] Zorque@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Violence itself? No, definitely not. Profit from violence? Very nearly.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

And whether or not we have a monopoly, we contribute to it in unacceptable ways. The United States having bad policies that harm innocent people doesn't mean other governments don't also have bad policies that harm innocent people, but those other governments' policies absolutely do not justify turning a blind eye to our own.

Still incorrect. Nearly everyone who commits violence stands to profit.

Over the last two decades, the company has re-tooled itself from a niche maker of hunting rifles and high-end pistols into an American mass producer of inexpensive, rapid-fire weaponry.

Bloomberg doesn't even try to hide it's bias, try to make it sound like sig has turned into high-point and is just pumping out weapons. They have never been and will never be inexpensive lol. "Rapid fire weaponry" you mean semi-automatic like most weapons since the early 1900s.
