Sorry for the title, didn’t know how to succinctly describe it. Here goes.

I have my gmail set up in my iOS device using the default app. Whenever a new email comes in, the number of new emails in the inbox would appear very briefly appear as 2, instead of 1.

After maybe a second or less, that number goes to 1, which is the correct number. It’s usually very quick so I don’t have a recording.

Has anyone encountered this? Anyone knows why it happens?

Thanks!

I have the feeling using GMail and iOS may be an unpopular combination on Lemmy. GMail is tracking every single thing you do in the app. Apart from all the messages.

So at least not using their app, and as a next step switching to a paid mail provider like recommended on PrivacyGuides will be good steps.

you may be able to replicate by emailing yourself with another device while you record on the device in question- if a video would actually be useful to someone

title could be 'problem: iOS miscounts gmail emails received' perhaps, or something
