There are posters popping up around Toronto encouraging people to “steal from Loblaws” next month. Here's what Loblaws has to say.

Remember, it's only OK to steal if the idea came from a boardroom meeting. /s

I've heard it said that a society is 3 missed meals away from a revolution. You make food increasingly unobtainable and people are going to lash out. I saw $10 for a loaf of bread the other day.

And the cat is out of the bag now about Loblaw's role in this so people are taking action.

Bob Loblaw.

That's it, I have nothing more to contribute and have no idea what's going on here.

True, true, though many are just different branding at this point. Guess I should throw in how many pharmacies they own as well.

NOTHING YOU CAN DO IS A CRIME COMPARED TO THE ACTS AND DECISIONS MADE BY A CEO

[–] lautan@lemmy.ca 9 points 6 months ago

I think they're trying to shift the narrative from a legitimate boycott to a criminal one. There are legit boycotts happening on fb etc.

Now that's an interesting idea. The police response is that Loblaw is on their own.

As much as I will never be on their side. Cops gotta eat too.

Respond to a shoplifting signal on Loblaw shoplifting day, take uniform off before entering the store. Shoplift and stash haul in trunk. Put uniform back on, ask the Loblaw manager what seems to be the problem.

We all should avoid the self checkouts as well. I refuse to use them. I'm a union worker and I want to be served by a human who is being paid a fair and living wage

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 9 points 6 months ago

Those self checkouts are SO unreliable! Every time I buy lamb it tells me that I scanned ground beef!

“This is dangerous and irresponsible. We sincerely thank the concerned groups, authorities, and many people who’ve denounced this behaviour,” a Loblaw spokesperson said.

“We certainly understand food affordability is an important issue affecting all of us, and we’ll continue to do everything we can, from lowering prices and making meaningful changes to our business, to help customers save money in our stores,” it continued.

Bold of them to say such an obvious lie in the same breath.

I like whoever started this. I find it hilarious.

So, the smart thieves will strike like a week prior. Got it
