Why do so many lemmy instances have non-traditional TLDs? (lemmy.ca)

.social
.world
.cuz

Is it due to cheaper registration and/or renewal fees? Or are there simply more availability on those TLDs?

Not an expert, but to me it simply seems that you can have more domains that start with Lemmy.

my guess is it's the same as why they're used on mastodon — they're fun

I think theyre cheaper. Due to being the standard, .com, .org etc are more sought after.

Because they're not businesses and don't need to have an "expected" TLD.
