In addition to a personal shield, try running armor with the Servo-Assisted modifier. The extra 50% limb health seems to help with all the ranged chip damage that inevitably comes with fighting bots. The longer throw range can take some getting used to though.

Stun grenades are also really, really good vs. bots. You can stun Hulks, which makes it a lot easier to snipe the Hulk's face. Stunning walkers causes them to lean forward, making it possible to pick off the driver using your primary weapon without needing to flank the walker. The big downside is that you can't frag bot factories with stun grenades, so you'll need to rely on Eagles and/or teammates to do that.

Stun grenades + AMR is a great combo too. Two AMR shots to the face kills a Hulk, and shots are pretty easy to hit when the Hulk is stunned. For rocket devastators, one or two AMR shots will blow up the rocket pods (hitting either shoulder pod will destroy both). The pods are a much easier target than the face, and rocket devastators without rockets aren't very threatening.

Limp damage isn't my problem. My problem is getting sbiped across the map and getting one tapped. But the main reason i don't like bot missions is: you are in range of enemy artillery. you are in range of enemy artillery. you are in range of enemy artillery. you are in range of enemy artillery. you are in range of enemy artillery. you are in range of enemy artillery. you are in range of enemy artillery. you are in range of enemy artillery. Keep your medals, i'll be over here fighting bugs

Bot artillery is the "We've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty" of Helldivers.

Yeah, I love the light armor with the servo assisted limbs (I wanna say it's called the Legionnaire Armor in the store sometimes?). Being able to throw 66 meters is pretty clutch when taking out bot factories or cannon towers.

I'll have to give stun grenades a shot. I typically use the impact grenades on bots since they insta kill walkers and help a ton if you're getting swarmed by a pack of the chainsaw arms dudes.

Yep, SC-37 Legionnaire. That's the one I run, since armor seems to do so little. Might be an argument for medium or heavy armor vs. bots, but I value the mobility and stam regen of light armor too much to switch.

I run the Slugger as primary, partly because it helps me survive either of those in a pinch. For chainsaw bot packs of three or less you can give each a stagger in turn to prevent them from closing with you. As long as you start before they're on top of you and don't miss, they'll be dead before they reach you. Versus walkers you can shoot the hip joint to stagger them, and they don't shoot while staggered. Four or five shots destroys the leg. Not a very ammo-efficient way to kill a walker, but a pretty safe method if none of my teammates has an angle on them.

The Slugger also one-shots all chafe bots, is surprisingly accurate at range and can one-shot devastators if you hit 'em in the face. Tough to do at range though as you have to account for bullet drop.

Slugger stagger is also excellent vs. bugs, the stagger can interrupt bug breach call-ins even if the shot doesn't kill the bug. It's been my go-to primary for all situations since the Breaker nerf.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago

Yeah I run the Slugger on bots as well. It does really well against the middle dudes too since you can just stun lock them until you get a shot on their face.

Impacts are a non negotiable component of my loadout. Killing tanks with two tosses? Yes please.

[–] Rolder@reddthat.com 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I’ve been running Light Explosive Resist personally. Helps you not get immediately clapped if you get hit by a rocket.

Also, does anyone know if there’s a Light +Grenade armor? Preferably one that isn’t orange

[–] Sylvartas@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

There is one on rotation in the superstore but it's very red. If I don't forget, I'll edit this post with its name when I fire up the game later tonight

Edit : fuck it, I'm not doing anything important right now. It's the CE-74 breaker

[–] Sylvartas@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

IIRC servo assisted doesn't affect the damage received at all. It gives more health to limbs, which makes the injury threshold lower in terms of limb health %, but it doesn't actually give you more hp, ie for the same armor value, receiving some damages (regardless of the localization) will chunk the exact same portion of your health bar with or without increased limb health.

However being able to yeet grenades and stratagems further can be extremely useful against bots

[–] CountVon@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago

Yeah, looks like you're correct, I got baited by the description. Did some testing with a friend, had him shoot me in the leg with a secondary with and without Servo-Assisted armor. No visible difference in the amount of damage taken, but Servo-Assisted prevented a leg injury below 50%. Will repeat the test tomorrow with the B-08 Light Gunner armor (light armor with Extra Padding modifier, 100 armor rating instead of 50) to see if that mitigates any amount of damage.

Couldn't decide on posting Homelander or this other version playing on the same theme.

[–] Sylvartas@lemmy.world 11 points 7 months ago

Yeah I'm running heavy armor with explosion resistance and usually a shield (unless I'm limited to 3 slots) and there are still times where I get absolutely wrecked. But at least, with this loadout, only the gunner devastators (or a whole fucking platoon of rocket devastators firing in lockstep) are really scary

[–] Lesrid@lemm.ee 11 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

This is absolutely counter to my experience, I'll take bots over bugs any day. Chargers and hunters and bile titans ruin me. Rocket Devastators are a small price to pay compared to the ocean of hunters.

[–] Aquila@sh.itjust.works 6 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Just gotta keep the hunter pack contained. Don’t let the edge ones start to flank you

And if bug gets up in your face press f to slap it an tell it no it’s not legally allowed to bite you!

Heavy Armor and shield pack is $$$

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 months ago

I can't stand how slow heavy armor makes you. Sure you can take a few more body shots (not head shots, those aren't affected by armor) but you also lose the ability to run and dodge effectively, meaning you take way more than it's worth - in my opinion.

[–] dana@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

I've actually found that heavy armor makes it harder, at least for me - too difficult to escape sticky situations. I've been running light or medium armor with the scout passive and playing like it's a stealth game - sneak up to an outpost, lob an eagle/orbital/impact grenade/etc in to clear out the fabs and bots, then quickly clear any objectives and get out before a patrol arrives

[–] dink@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago (2 children)

I don’t even bother with the shield at higher difficulties. Feel like it gets one shot anyways.

Plus I feel like half the 7+ missions all have reduced stratagems these days.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 3 points 7 months ago

I was doing level 7s last night with reduced strategems and had to decide between my shield and an Eagle. It was a tough call, but ultimately the shield won out. It makes retreating (tactically of course, praise democracy) much easier without getting randomly sniped.

[–] TexMexBazooka@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago

Reduced stratagems kills the fun imo

[–] EchoCT@lemmy.ml 3 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Who runs shields? Medium armor and the extra vitality booster and good to go. Stims cure all.

The rocket bots don't lead well so as long as you move and use cover then you should be fine.

I prefer bots. Keep moving, hit and run and you're good. People get too used to the stand and fight of going against bugs that they can't adapt.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago

I personally feel like a shield is a must have for bots. But I also run light armor because I prefer the extra mobility. I might have to give medium armor a shit now that it's been buffed a bit. I just feel like the shields do a lot to prevent stray shots from taking you out randomly from halfway across the map.
