i am fully prepared to sound like a nag here, but i think i cannot get on board with lemmy at this point. i'm not techy enough, or something. most threads and communities will not load on click, and instead i've got to refresh every page. (is this just me?! it's been happening since i signed up.) commenting is a headache and i actually intended this to be a comment on one of the threads up in simpleliving now, but just couldn't get it to submit. i also find the sleek modern look unappealing. i am not looking for suggestions here, my mind is made up.

preferring the older, more thoughtful web, i found a platform called dreamwidth, where you can make long-form posts (more my style). the layout is simple and tasteful. there are absolutely no ads or algorithm, you have only a reading list for other accounts or communities you choose to follow. it feels tight-knit, personal, and quiet. it's a breath of fresh air, to me.

in the event you have similar internet preferences as me.. and if your idea of simple living aligns with mine.. or you're into traditional/fiber crafts, land based lifeways, plants, etc.. here's my dreamwidth journal, give me a follow and i'll gladly follow you back: https://peatweaver.dreamwidth.org/

i hope this sort of post is allowed! i posted on r/simpleliving for a long time, under many different usernames because i was always a serial account deleter (always disliked reddit for many of the same reasons!). maybe some would recognize me as peatweaver, bogorchid, crowberryjam. anyway, some folks from this community seemed so kind, so i wanted to leave this little signpost. i actually intend to delete this post after a bit too, since i never wanted to dedicate a whole thread to something as self-centered as this, but it seems to be the only way that will work haha. thank you, and have a wonderful life.

Totally fair. For what it's worth, I had a lot of similar problems but found Connect for Lemmy works most of the time as an app. I think most of the issue is that the almost exponential and unexpected growth has been brutal on servers and the devs who are working on lemmy projects on their free time.

I think several of your issues are technical and could be solved by finding a different app, but it sounds like you do just prefer a different style of forum. Do you know if they have any apps? I like the idea of this.

it is just very strange, i could not even reply to this comment until i downloaded lemmy as an app on my partner's device. i did not have any app prior to this, had been accessing lemmy through its website, and will be promptly deleting the app. even on its app, i seem to only be able to reply to you after accessing this comment via notifications, and could not submit on the thread page itself. what a nonfunctional mess, is what i think! one of my preferences is that i need not download any app at all, as i do not have my own smartphone. i fundamentally dislike what apps have done to how we relate to the internet. anyway, at this point i will only be using old school forums (like myBB types) or sites like dreamwidth. that's just me. :) i believe dreamwidth has no app for its own stated reasons (something about that they prefer to not have the restrictions app stores would impose). thank you.

Oh this definitely gives me LiveJournal vibes just from a quick browse of random communities. I can definitely understand how this might be more someone's style than lemmy/reddit/etc which is more for quick browsing, short attention spans. And arguing lol

Think of it like email. You can have username@goofle and someone else can have the same username@yoohoo but they can still talk to each other. Remember chain emails where people hit "reply all"? Same shit here.
