If anyone's interested in the show, there's three made-for-tv movies and a series.

The first two tv-movies are so bad it's good entertaining. Everything else is awful. Shatner is barely in the show, but when he is, it's much better.

Civvie11 on YouTube did a good video about the game as well

I'm outraged that the article skimped on Mr. Shatner's other acting accomplishments including the titular cop on T.J. Hooker, and whatever his name was on Boston Legal. That was the lawyer show that wasn't Ally McBeal. Or L.A. Law.

whatever his name was on Boston Legal.

Denny Crane

I thought it was a pretty good show

"Cookoo for Cocoa Puffs. Denny Crane."

Here's a link for civvie11's review of tekwar for anyone who hasn't seen this pinnacle of entertainment.

I still hold that this is one of the pinnacle videos of his. Outstanding in the pacing, writing, jokes, production.

I played that game when it was relatively current.

I don't remember much of it ... Probably because I didn't get far, finding it rather incoherent. I'll check out the video and see if it brings back any memories! Thanks!

I picked up Tekworld #1 eons ago, back when I was a young voracious comic book collector and would buy anything off the "New" shelf. I never bothered to read it...I figured it couldn't be worse than TJ Hooker, but it appears I was terribly mistaken. I'm sorry I contributed to this shitty franchise, I thought it would be worth a fortune when I got old (it's not).

Also, wrt:

I’m not sure how thankful I should be that someone made William Shatner’s TekWar more accessible to me, but at least I didn’t struggle with PGUP and PGDN to move my virtual neck.

Yeah, thank your lucky stars that gaming with a mouse became a fuckin thing, because hitting PGUP and PGDN to pan up & down sucked back then too.

This is why people should not be buying video games (or anything really) from a specualtive market standpoint. Buy what you like and enjoy, not what you think will make you rich later on.

You know what, you're right. I'll make sure child me from 30 years ago doesn't do it again.

I liked the show as a kid. The main protag's gun would shoot this cool shockwave ripple that I thought was really cool. The money system was kinda neat too.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

The K-gun.

If Deforrest Kelly had written Tek War it wouldn't have been described as "non-lethal".

Said the robot pimp disdainfully.

Someone really doesn't like Mr. Shatner's work.

I hear people are trying to get "AIs" to make games. I hope they're all trained on this 😈

(That's what I thought of, reading "technological future of crap." The article itself seems to just be a typical review for that game, which is indeed among the hottest of garbages.)

someone seems to think destructoid means something.
