Do speed cameras in Sweden only take photos as you approach them (one way only) or can they cover both sides of the road?

They cover the side of the road they’re on.

I think the face has to be visible in the photo so even if it has the capacity it only takes pictures of oncoming traffic. next time i think r/Asksweddit is a better place for your question :)

so if they take a photo of a speeding vehicle in the other lane, the police would just ignore and not try to get in contact with the owner (the rental car company) to ascertain the driver / issue a ticket?

The cameras won't do that in the first place, but if they did such a photo would be useless. In Sweden the owner is not considered responsible for a speeding vehicle, the speed cameras are designed to capture the face of the driver as well as the license plate.

It doesn’t even take a picture of the other lane.

This is correct, its because the driver is the one fined. Not the owner of the vehicle.

If you pull down the sun visor and block your face you can speed without getting fined. From a camera that is.

Haha. If a camera does get you doing 30+ over, do you lose your licence or is that only if a cop catches you?

Only if a cop catches you. Theres no way to prove through a camera who is drivning if your face isnt visible, thats how the law is written atleast.

We had a guy a fue years ago that became infamous because of driving violations. He would put on a gorilla mask and speed like crazy all over town. Back and forth, over there and back to here. They had hundreds if not thousands of pictures of a speeding gorilla on camera. The police caught him later with a gorilla mask in his car and he lost his license xD.

That’s hilarious. Last time I drove in Sweden most people seemed to stick to the limits but 90kmh on those straight rural roads (not in winter) was just a bit too boring. Is it acceptable to go 20-30 over or would other drivers view that as particularly aggressive driving?

Yeah you shouldnt do that. We have slot of wildlife. Almost everyone that doesnt live in the city center has sometime crashed with a wild animal, atleast been very close.

Thats a part of why those roads are slow.
