I'm looking to start testing out and developing for mobile Linux and am curious what the current best options are for used devices that support it.

I have done a bit of digging and the most popular choice seems to be the Oneplus 6, but it looks like supply has somewhat dried up and prices are creeping up on the second hand market... not to mention that it is starting to get a bit old.

I noticed that msm8953 devices are starting to get mainline support so tried getting lk2nd running on my phone (Moto G7), but couldn't get it to boot.

Is the (mainline supporting) hardware landscape really this bleak?

I have a oneplus 6t that I bought renewed from amazon. Accidently ordered two and never returned the second one (shipping snaffu, long story). I can give you a decent price on it if you want

Thanks for the offer! It might be easier for me to keep looking for a local seller so I don't have to deal with importing fees and such.

Unfortunately, yes. Also only PinePhone (Pro) and Librem 5 have a working camera.

The Shift6mq (sdm845 as OnePlus 6 and Pocophone F1) might be interesting for some users because they are still manufactured and hence used ones in good conditions can be found.

Well realistically anything well supported is gonna be a "bit old". Your best bet is either a OnePlus 6/6T, Pocophone F1 or a PinePhone/Librem 5. Fairphones are getting up there in support.

OnePlus 6s are still being manufactured for spare parts, you can buy one on Aliexpress for around $150
