Anon discovers FOV and probably higher framerates.

Shouldn't these screens be swapped? The 4:3 matches the "seen by both eyes" of prey better, and the predator should be able to fit the widescreen in its "seen by both eyes" vision better.

The player is the predator/prey. A wide screen helps you see threats, a narrow screen helps you focus on targets.

You could just change your resolution...

Or even just paste on strips of paper to get the same effect.

If their logic rang true then gaming on a phone would be the ultimate immersion.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 13 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Nah, because 9:21 or whatever stupid resolution phones use now is basically even wider than 16:9, they just flip it on its side. 1:1 is the greatest resolution for gaming

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 13 points 9 months ago

you are supposed to play games vertically.

like when excellent cinematographers record drunken fights on wendys and post on facebook

[–] GrammatonCleric@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago

I think you mean 1:1 ratio. 1 pixel by 1 pixel would be ultra no res 🤣

Something something Tiktok something something future is now old man.

[–] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 33 points 9 months ago

Meanwhile I finally got a 21:9 and I'm so not going back! 120 FOV might finally feel normal at this ratio.

I will defend anon on the basis that having your HUD stretch from sea to shining sea assumes I have goat eyes.

[–] TonyTonyChopper@mander.xyz 4 points 9 months ago

good games let you move the hud closer to the middle

One day you will all awaken to the 1:1 master race and will see the world through new, perfectly square, eyes.

[–] taanegl@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Mine are already squared... I wonder if it has to do with the 3-4 screens i have in my face all the time.

It gets memed because some people say "It's better I swear!" Then die because an enemy was in a corner they didn't check fully because they can't see as much. It's caused pros to actually lose games in CS:GO.

[–] Itte@sh.itjust.works 8 points 9 months ago (1 children)

nah its pretty good actually

just that most media keep getting wider and wider

It's the Comic Sans of aspect ratios

[–] may_nya@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 9 months ago
