Our kitchen heats up our whole apartment whenever we cook and we don’t have A/C. If I covered the small arch entrance to the kitchen with a thermal curtain would it be worth the insulation it could provide?

Yes. I've done this in a couple different places. A moderately heavy blanket will insulate the rooms from each other (hot or cold). Thermal curtains may work as well.
