Logged in a few minutes ago and noticed that reputation in my account was much higher then before. Guessing it might be counted now.

I kinda hope @ernest resets all the rep to zero to undo the negative million reputation I've earned by telling tankies in lemmy to go fuck themselves.

[–] Gamers_Mate@kbin.social 25 points 1 year ago

you have over 1k rep now so I am guessing it is fixed.

[–] Roundcat@kbin.social 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Wear it like a badge of honor, or a neat battle scar.

[–] Flaky_Fish69@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

I kind of hope he freezes it.

I have 1337 reputation.

This amuses me, and if I have to have internet points they might as well amuse me.Also maybe dates me.

[–] Beep22@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

And there was me feeling all edgy at -1

[–] Osvaldoilustrador@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Hahaha you're def super brave! You deserve a medal!

[–] BaroqueInMind@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks man. I had to crawl through some filthy comments, I'm pretty sure it was worse than whatever those chumps on Juno Beach during the D-Day Normandy invasion had to endure... You got a medal for me? Let's see what you have.

@holo_nexus I want to point the post of me created a few hours ago before the pseudo fix. The developer replied there, so you might be interested: https://kbin.social/m/AskKbin/t/125046/Why-don-t-upvotes-count#entry-comment-490554 It's a quick fix and there is still some work to be done. But yes, this pretty much confirms it.

[–] 0xtero@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I was kinda hoping the whole "Reputation" thing could just be deleted so we don't get the karmawhoring problem that plagued Reddit, but now, I guess I can actually upvote someone more than once, so that's a thing!

[–] curiosityLynx@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

@0xtero Well, boosting is more like retweeting to your microblog for your followers.

@holo_nexus

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh, baby, I don't even know where to start spending all these!

[–] IHeartBadCode@kbin.social 18 points 1 year ago

Might I interest you in one of my favorites?

[–] pizzadreams@kbin.social 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

🥳 nice one @ernest

What does this mean for boost now?

[–] ernest@kbin.social 66 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Hey, boost == 2*upvote. Simple as that ;)

[–] BarbecueCowboy@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Hey, okay, that explains it, was looking at my reputation to check and see if this was legit and couldn't get the numbers to match up. I'm not some crazy person counting up 100s of posts, I've only got like 6, pretty quick math.

Thanks for all you do ernest, loving it here!

[–] Chozo@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Does this count only for personal account reputation scores, or does this also count toward any sorting algos on the platform?

[–] ernest@kbin.social 29 points 1 year ago (2 children)

No, there is no connection between reputation points and sorting algorithms. It's just info in the profile.

[–] Rabbithole@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I have to admit, I do like the two being separated.

"Likes" and votes about relevancy getting mixed up on Reddit was a legitimate problem over there.

[–] minnieo@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

hope it stays that way, thats wonderful

[–] pizzadreams@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Cool 👍 Also what happened to “favourites”, I can no longer see upvoted (saved) posts?

[–] ernest@kbin.social 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

fav == upvote (/fav)
boost == boosts (/u/pizzadreams/boosts)

[–] pizzadreams@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Ah I see. Working as intended now 👌

[–] DoucheAsaurus@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Then I just gave you 3 upvotes :)

[–] NotAPenguin@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks for taking care of ernest!

[–] anon@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It feels a little weird to me that we can manually upvote our own comments and posts on kbin.

Reddit would automatically set them at +1 because it’s implied that the author would want to upvote their own contributions, and it’s one less hassle if it’s done automatically.

Alternatively, new posts and comments can start at 0, but then I feel like authors should not be able to upvote their own contributions.

[–] Blade9732@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Wait...we are supposed to upvote our own comment? Thanks for the info, I was confused on that one and thought it was a glitch.

[–] LostCause@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

Yep, I didn‘t even notice.

[–] Rabbithole@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We'll I have a bunch now, so it's fixed as far as I can tell. It'd be nice to just have it hidden though tbh, or we'll just get the same karma farming garbage over here that we had on Reddit.

My personal opinion, of course.

[–] thehatfox@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

Yes, if there is one lesson we should have learned from Reddit it's that internet points aren't great for fostering real discussion and debate.

Still, with so many new link aggregation platforms appearing to fill the Reddit void, hopefully we still end up with something better.

[–] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

Damn. I'm finally in the positive.
Not that I care too much about imaginary internet points, but a couple "controversial" (differing opinions) comments on a topic and you looked like a negative karma troll at first glance.

[–] VulcanSphere@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

Can confirm.

[–] reflex@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

Looks like karma is back on the menu boiiis.

[–] artisanrox@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I see it got fixed too, I was at like -102 because I thought that submarine company should have paid for its own search and rescue lol

[–] Otome-chan@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Just checked my profile and... it has to be. I went from -1k-something reputation to 6000+ in the course of today. only way that could've happened is if the upvotes thing is fixed.

[–] Gamers_Mate@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I am guessing so since just before I saw this post I checked my profile and it was at 3k. Up from 200 or so.

[–] Bendersmember@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Ya mine went from 100 to zero to almost 800, I'm guessing it must have finally been fixed.

[–] iAmTheTot@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Hrm wonder if it's working quite right. 3k seems high for me.

[–] xc2215x@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, they fixed it.

[–] AshDene@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I have to say I'm lowkey dissapointed, it was fun seeing my score bouncing around 0.

[–] Osvaldoilustrador@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Is that why everyone got super boosted =O ? Cool! thank you, Ernest!

[–] chamim@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

The bulk of the accounts had either sub-zero or single-digit reputation, which was weird. And it maybe have discouraged people from joining kbin from reddit, where karma was more easy to understand.

[–] megane_kun@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It seems like they applied this retroactively as well. I remember my account (this one, from lemmy.world) having four reputation points, and I barely had any activity yesterday. It's now over 900.

Not that I really get to see it unless I really seek it out.

[–] curiosityLynx@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

@megane_kun Afaik reputation isn't tracked separately but calculated on the fly with upvotes minus downvotes (and boosts minus downvotes before). That would make it necessarily retroactive.
