Earlier today Valve made a new depot for TF2 called "x64_linux_test". Maybe this mean well get a native 64 bit client ( and hopefully DXVK instead of ToGL please Valve) or this is just server stuff

Ok that's great but they need to fix the bots.

Wait, I thought the TF2 team was just one guy still working on it because he likes to.

I am so hype for this actually. Never thought about it but no other source 1 game supports 64 bit except for CSGO.. so my theory is that this is the first step towards getting the game ported to source 2 someday!

Apparently all source 1 games are 32 bit. Except for CSGO..

engine was made when 64 bit operating systems werent mainstream yet

But that’s not possible. It has to have some kind of 64 bit binary. It uses well over 4GiB of RAM.

Wish the game wasn’t so dead 😭

[–] Ostrichgrif@lemmy.world 21 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's in the top 20 games on steam nearly 100% of the time, it definitely has its issues but it's far from dead.

It's because it's full of bots.

Only on Valve's official servers. Everywhere else is safe from those.

we're talking about tf2 not l4d

There are lots of bots and it sucks to vote kick them, but if I can get full matches in Australia with no issue I feel like the game is pretty okay. I do miss community servers though I'll grant you.

It’s not really fun getting a spinbot every other game

[–] mriormro@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

The game's almost two decades old.

this is looking very cool since they are adding Vulkan, this post pretty much covers this https://lemmy.world/comment/6971961

People still play this game? Last time I checked it out (over 5 years ago) it was full of bots. It can’t be any better now.

Bots are only really a problem on Valve servers. There are many active community servers out there that manage to detect and ban them.
