I had such a good day yesterday. It's really rare that I'll have a day that starts good and stays good all day

When I woke up I realised I woke up too early and could sleep for another hour, which strangely made me happy, and it was kind of cold in my room so it was so cozy in my bed. Then I went for a walk and it was a nice temp. My bus ran on time, my train was on time and less busy than usual, my tram ran on time and had lots of seats.

I went to an advocacy training thing for kids in out of home care, and found out that it leads to lots of exciting positions that actually pay a decent amount (I was under the impression that it was all volunteer). I had a great time + free lunch. I asked like a thousand questions, and it seems like a great opportunity to do something that actually seems to make a difference and affect the course of legislature and government policy, which seems like a much more rewarding field to work in then selling people grease burgers in sugar buns

I had teriyaki chicken for dinner, which is one of my favourite things to make, even though I haven't had it for a while. And I finished the day off by falling asleep pretty effortlessly

Cross fingers for me everyone - I just put an offer in on the unit I want to buy.
I was going to do it tomorrow after my aunt and I had another look, but I went to another OFI at the last minute and a woman with a family was very keen, so I got my offer in. Hopefully the fact that my offer is unconditional (inspection done, finance sorted) will give me the edge!

How TF does one buy a house? There seems to be 85 steps and this is way too much adulting at once

In office today, kill me or wish me luck - whatever suits.

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

Can I wish you luck too, or do I have to kill you since dunenan wished you luck already? I wasn't planning on doing murder today :/

[โ€“] Duenan@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

Iโ€™ll wish you luck! ๐Ÿ€

Still haven't heard back from the job. Expecting an answer tomorrow. Tbh I think it'll be bad news, but I'm really hoping it's not.

Just have to wait and see...

[โ€“] underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 7 points 10 months ago

It always takes longer than you think. Sending good vibes.

Yo whaddap guys I'm awake before 10am and am going to steady my nerves and start refining my CV today before I get sucked into some other form of media.

Also clean the fuck out of the mess I left in the kitchen yesterday.

And accept the fact that I may have thrips on this peace lily I inherited from my deceased neighbour and need to do something about it stat, even though it feels futile. Eco-oil is all I have at the moment, guess I'll try that.

e: woof, first psychiatrist telehealth appt of the year, no safety net, $250 gone like that... but I did get 35 minutes rather than the 15-20 minutes I'd normally get, and I've locked in 6 months worth of scripts so I'll take it

I have acquired myself these from the front yard. Do tell me exceptionally British reasons why I deserve them.

Iโ€™ve been neglecting the plants. Most of the spinnos are gone, the two remaining starting to bolt. Everything else is alive.

The rosemary cuttings in the paper cups on the windowsill are still bent wrong in the stem but have new growth.

I pulled up the biggest carrots to make room for the rest to grow. I havenโ€™t been keeping up on the fertiliser so theyโ€™re a bit slow growing and small. Tiny even.

But they look like little round carrots and have a strong carrot smell.

Feeling rather ordinary today, between the infection itself, the antibiotics and the tetanus injection. At least I don't have to go anywhere.
Still no sign of pakige. Poo. :(

So, Google just did the whole "four years ago" photo nostalgia thingy with a cute pic of the kids.

Forget the photo. FOUR YEARS AGO WAS 2020!!

Thank goodness I have tomorrow off. Boss has been a hard taskmaster this week and I'm knackered. It made me feel old and sad, that I can't work at the pace of a workaholic man a couple of years younger than me๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ About 80% of this first week back seemed to consist of things I haven't done before, and I really tried to be as helpful as possible but didn't really nail it. I guess I work to live and not the other way around.

I went to a Korean place for lunch (oriental spoon on Elizabeth St). I had always assumed it would be average and overpriced due to its really good location. I was wrong! It was relatively cheap, $18 lunch special Bento Box which was huge - had bulgogi, spriNg rolls, fried chicken, salad. I got a serve of beef bulgogi on a sizzling plate, it came with rice and the side dishes of kimchi etc. it was $22 and ENOURMOUS, and delicious! I'm guessing like 400g of just beef, definitely meant for two people. I somehow ate it all which baffled my dining companion. 8.5/10. Food coma worth it

Door stuck send halp ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

REA sending someone, hopefully they come soon. Atleast I won't have to pay for this one ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™‚๏ธ

E: God damn it. The REA sent me details of the tradie and when I called him, he said he's not working until next week. What the hell REA ๐Ÿ™„ now they aren't answering the phone ffs

E2: an hour back the new tradie said they'll be there within the hour but now they called and said they won't be here until 4pm. I'm so annoyed now. Annoyed and jetlagged.

Grocery shopping done.

Going to treat myself to a latte as thatโ€™s something I canโ€™t make at home.

Itโ€™s unusually warm in this shopping centre already, almost like they donโ€™t have the aircon on.

Amazed Iโ€™m awake as I didnโ€™t sleep much last night.

Hoping for today to be a really good day.

Ya'll ever have one of those meetings where the second its done your boss calls you and you both just sigh loudly in a defeated manor, or is that just my workplace?

[โ€“] notgold@aussie.zone 7 points 10 months ago

My wife calls me straight after hers each day and asks me existential questions. So glad mine are monthly.

As a rule I'm not really a fan of hot breakfasts. I can do it, but it's not my preference, beyond say toast.

Am I weird?

Awake early and was stressing. Whatโ€™s the best oven cleaner to use? Is gumption ok? Have a can of bam or something also. Oven has a cycle to moisten the inside but thatโ€™s it.

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

I usually leave it too long between oven cleans, and I donโ€™t have the will to sit there scrubbing, so I go straight for the strongest stuff. I use one of those spray on foam oven cleaners. Warning: itโ€™s stinky and irritating so youโ€™ll need to open a window and have fan on. Follow the instructions on the can and it will get the job done, oven will sparkle.

"Fire and police services were called to the Free Choice Tobacconist on Pier St, Altona in Melbourne's south west about 4am after the alleged arson was witnessed by members of the public. Police believe the arsonists threw jerry cans through the smashed front window of the shop before setting it alight."

What the fuck is going on in Melbourne? This following two firebombings of ice cream shops in Williamstown makes me think we need to change the number plate slogan - "Victoria - the crime state"

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

If I remember correctly, there's some beef between the illegal tobacco dealers. A tobacconist near me was hit somewhat recently too

It's some underworld shit basically https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/oct/25/melbourne-tobacco-shop-fire-firebomb-attacks-record-illicit-illegal-tobacco-seized

Skincare enthusiasts. Please recommend me a moisturizer for my face. Currently I just use the sunscreen on my face - Beauty of Joseon something, a friend made me buy it ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™‚๏ธ and I really like the finish as it's not shiny. I think I have combination skin (t zone is oily I guess?)

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 7 points 10 months ago (10 children)

Not really an enthusiast as such, but I use the cheap stuff, and I like it better than the spenso stuff. Redwin Vitamin E Cream with Evening Primrose Oil. A few bux at colesworth for 330g. Not shiny or greasy, and being cheap you can slather it on all over if you need to - eg sunburn. It's not heavily perfumed - I hate strongly scented face cream. Sunscreen goes over it just fine. Sorbolene cream in the generic pump pack is my other go to if I want a bit more oomph, but this can be a bit greasy if you use too much or don't massage it in. Unperfumed. If you're not fussed about labels, then try the baby aisle for baby lotion - this is very effective for caring for sensitive skin or combination skin. I don't care for the perfume in it though.

Cerave lotion in the blue pump pack is good. Hydrating but very light and not greasy or shiny. Really water based feeling if that makes sense

[โ€“] fullkitwanker@aussie.zone 4 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Oh yes, I love their cleanser. I'll give this a go!

Edit: totally not creepy that I saw a CeraVe ad on Facebook ๐Ÿ™ƒ
