Uh, that’s not how silence or the media work.

[–] flambonkscious@sh.itjust.works 14 points 9 months ago

Might be another Streisand effect, can't say I'm bothered by that possibility

Anything coming from this Turkish rag reads like some 16 year old was given the keys to the propaganda bus

Great debunking of the article. Very valuable comment.

[–] nonailsleft@lemm.ee -4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Why would I need to debunk it? Does anyone think it was the Martians that killed him?

[–] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Ask Netanyahu, he's the thinking that he has plausible deniability by silencing his ministers.

What an overblown headline.

Netanyahu’s office demanded that ministers not make statements to the media regarding the assassination

[–] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Israeli Knesset member from the Likud party, Danny Danon, congratulated security forces for the assassination in what appears to be the first official Israeli acknowledgment of responsibility.

"I congratulate the Israeli army, the Shin Bet, and the Mossad and the security forces on killing the senior Hamas official Salah al-Arouri in Beirut,'' Danon wrote on X.

The article isn't overblown. No statements on the bombing are allowed to be made by the Israeli government to fake plausible deniabilty.

It's like a new trend I'm seeing here on lemmy. Every anti israel article some guy comes in and calls it "overblown and out of proportions" when the article is clearly backed up with evidence.

Silencing the media is a much bigger deal than a government body not talking publicly about a military operation.

[–] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I believe the term for that is a media blackout. Or silencing journalists.

Netanyahu is demanding media silence from the ministers. In direct response to one of them admitting in a social media post that israel did the bombing.

If they knew secret war operation details Netanyahu wouldn't need to mention this silencing to begin, with since leaking that is already forbidden.

Wow. The only dude that actually read the article instead of reacting to the headline got down voted. Lemmy truly is just DIY reddit.

[–] Decoy321@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

As of the time I wrote this, dude's only got two down votes and 13 up votes. I wouldn't call that indicative of any trends.

When I wrote my comment he was in the negative. I am not psychic.

Its self hosted. You need to edit your comment and add the medal emoji.

What's the difference between "demanding media silence" and calling for censorship?

[–] Fisk400@feddit.nu 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Censorship is done by the state. Media silence is done by the media voluntarily.

[–] TheOakTree@beehaw.org 8 points 9 months ago

If you get punished by the state for not complying with a demand for media silence, then what is the difference? (I'm not referring specifically to this case, but in general)
