This is unfortunate. I think it is probably a response to people leaking military strategy as well as going up against Russian propaganda. But freedom of the press is an extremely important part of a healthy democracy so at what cost.

MODERATORS
Freedom of the press never extended to the front lines of an active war zone.
Autonomous reporters (even if they only are that, which isn't safe to assume) wandering around on battlefields can cause all kinds of issues for everyone involved.
Oyyyyy this makes me nervous.
Nah, just standard opsec. Why let the news reporter leak your military operation in 4k for enemies to use it against you?
