When I was stationed in the UK, we were warned not to use private driveways to turn around our cars.

They said the residents don't take kindly to having their driveways disturbed and might raise hell, chasing the car with whatever they could grab (allegedly this had happened many times).

Ach away and shite. If I see a driveway with a sign saying "no turning", I'll fucking turn there even if I'm going the right way. Then look for another

Death by U-Turn is a thing and not just in Texas. I was just curious to see what the distribution was of these kinds of events, s'all. Weird stuff...

Why would you make a U-turn in a driveway? Driveways are generally narrower than roads.

Surely it’d be a Y-turn.

I think they just mean a 3 point turn with extra space. Pull in and reverse out.

I believe the only place that calls it a Y-turn (in any official capacity) is Wisconsin

Depends but usually because the road itself is not wide enough or you don't want to impede traffic.

The last time I did this it was on a road with culverts on either side so the safest way to U Turn was in someone's driveway.

I think they were just pointing out that isn't a U turn. They called it a Y turn, many people I know would call it a 3 point turn. They were being pedantic for comic relief but it didn't go over as well as expected.

Shallow egos. Itchy trigger fingers. Great combo!
