If the Houthis think they can go toe to toe with the US Navy they’re gonna have a bad time

You act like they’re going to wear uniforms and stand in lines with sabers. This is asymmetric warfare. You make the enemy either go away or become butchers of humanity.

On land I agree but I don’t see them as able to do anything other than pester USN forces

[–] Fecundpossum@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

Pester and get rekt

I suspect the only reason the United States isn't delivering the Houthis a healthy dose of freedom by the killoton is because China is waiting for us to commit elsewhere in order to fuck around in the South China Sea.

The USA military is/was set for two major conflicts at once. I don't think the USA military is even in one major conflict at the moment. Sure, shit is happening, but not major conflicts.

I have no idea how many minor conflicts the USA military can handle. Maybe fewer than normal with Sen. Tuberville's work.

The US has spent a century developing the ability fight two full-size conflicts at once. Houthis taking pot shots at a boat in the Middle East has zero impact on the combat readiness of the Seventh Fleet.

I suspect what you’re going to see is an immediate move to bring two more destroyers into frigates into the area and work with NATO to start armed convoys. Don’t be surprised if US warships start sinking Yemeni small craft, the way they did Somali pirates & IRGC fast boats.

We’ve been prepared for war on two fronts/seas for 80 years. China is a major front, but crushing the Arabian peninsula is nothing for the us military. We would also undoubtedly have ally assistance reigning China in

Looks like they just swatted down what came their way. Sooner or later it will be a FAFO situation

[–] Buelldozer@lemmy.today 11 points 11 months ago

Things are about to get real...proportional.

Houthis now in conflict with Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the US. What an impetuous decision.
