Honestly, this is likely done to alienate other instances towards blahaj.

I'd like to reiterate that blahaj is a chill place, with chill people and that a pathetic hateful spammer will not change our stance on that.
If anything, dealing with this only strengthens our support.

Peace,

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Out of curiosity, what is a blahaj?

[–] InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Blahaj as in lemmy.blahaj.zone, which this community is in.
/waves hands around

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I got that part, but what is a blahaj?

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 7 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Tagging @ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone, this is getting out of hand

[–] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 40 points 11 months ago (2 children)

It's a troll that specifically targets queer instances. They're even manually verifying the email addresses.

The reason it's getting out of hand is because getting other instances annoyed enough to defederate the queer instance is their goal

Defederation and alienation is indeed likely their goal and I, for one, will not be giving them the satisfaction.

We all know why bigots would target blahaj and if anything this only cements my resolve in supporting you, blahaj and their users.

Peace

💖

Oh hi Ada! Any chance you can restrict registrations for a while so that everyone can get refederated and you can get things sorted?

[–] Camus@lemmy.ca 21 points 11 months ago (1 children)

@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone , not sure yours did it as it doesn't show the link

[–] hollyberries@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I tagged her on Matrix also!

[–] sexy_peach@feddit.de 10 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Does lemmy.blahaj.zone only have one admin? That's a lot of work for one person ^^

[–] Camus@lemmy.ca 12 points 11 months ago

They have two based on their instance sidebar: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/

[–] Franzia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 11 months ago

I think they're currently looking for more

[–] Camus@lemmy.ca 7 points 11 months ago
[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 32 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not even the user I just blocked and reported for posting gore and gay porn on random threads, is this an coordinated attack?

[–] Masimatutu@mander.xyz 27 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think it is just one loser who doesn't have anything better to do (and who has some kind of grudge against blåhaj Lemmy or something)

[–] at_an_angle@lemmy.one 16 points 11 months ago

Agree. It's probably just some script kiddie thinking he's a pro hacker.

[–] AZERTY@feddit.nl 29 points 11 months ago

I blocked the account as soon as I saw it.

[–] IWantToFuckSpez@kbin.social 28 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

And now they are posting pictures of assholes. Just ban anything that posts that dumbass soyjak
website.

[–] sexy_peach@feddit.de 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Just report the account, on feddit.de it was banned like an hour ago :)

[–] Fitik@fedia.io 9 points 11 months ago

It got nuked on my instance as well!

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 11 months ago

That account was just like a few I've seen in the last couple days, basically report everyone one of their word salad comments and then block them

They'll get removed usually pretty quick

[–] Master@lemm.ee 15 points 11 months ago

To me it seems like a bot designed to destroy search results. Needs to be banned and all posts deleted.

[–] Camus@lemmy.ca 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Okay now it's becoming ironic

[–] Masimatutu@mander.xyz 11 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I've blocked them so I only see the number of comments going up ;)

[–] abbadon420@lemm.ee 10 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

The account has joined an hour ago and has posted 600 comments. That's impressive 😆

Anyways, I've blocked it. So should everyone. The mods and admins should ban the account from their respective communities and servers.

These things happen. Best not to give it a second thought.

[–] squiblet@kbin.social 16 points 11 months ago

Rate limiting for new accounts seems like a decent idea. Reddit’s “you are doing that too much” or the stupid vague error moose are annoying, but there’s no legitimate reason someone would sign up and comment 600 times in the first hour.

[–] Gamers_Mate@kbin.social 10 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

It seems to be spamming lemmy world and lemmy ca as well with its word salad nonsense.

Edit: I just found it in kbin social.

[–] Masimatutu@mander.xyz 11 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

It's spamming nearly every instance. We've really got to do something about spam on the Threadiverse.

Edit: lemmy.ml and Beehaw seem to have sorted it out quickly

[–] Fitik@fedia.io 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Still not banned, very Wierd, it has been going for 2 hours already

[–] Camus@lemmy.ca 13 points 11 months ago (1 children)

To be fair, it might be nightime for the admin team of that instance. I know for instance that for our instance (Jlai.lu), if that would happen during nighttime in Europe, we would probably not react within the hour.

[–] Fitik@fedia.io 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I understand it, but it's the second time it happened already. Usually instances have at least one mod in a different timezone so it will not be left unmoderated.

[–] Camus@lemmy.ca 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I can tell you it's definitely not the case for the smaller instances I'm part of

[–] Fitik@fedia.io 5 points 11 months ago

Not for a small ones I guess. But I thought that blahaj is a pretty big instance

[–] Camus@lemmy.ca 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yes please, got it spamming on my instance as well.

There are more than one, just had to block another..

[–] ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 11 months ago

@blahaj@lemmy.blahaj.zone Looks like there's another one.

[–] Zellith@kbin.social 8 points 11 months ago

Yeah I think the best you can do atm is to click on their account and select the block button. Unless you want to keep an eye on what the account is up to. Either way, I've reported and blocked. I cant do more. Sorry :(

[–] throws_lemy@lemmy.nz 7 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

An hour has passed, and this spammer hasn't been banned yet

Edit

Huh? Hexbear?

[–] Camus@lemmy.ca 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

To be fair, it might be nightime for the moderation/admin team of that instance. I know for instance that for our instance (Jlai.lu), if that would happen during nighttime in Europe, we would probably not react within the hour.

[–] throws_lemy@lemmy.nz 8 points 11 months ago (11 children)

Well, since this spammer has gone crazy on several instances

I was thinking we need mods from different time zones.

[–] Sal@mander.xyz 11 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (5 children)

There is also another complexity involved in the authority chain of federated messages. For example, you created a post to /c/science@mander.xyz, and you are from lemmy.nz. The spammer is from lemmy.blahaj.zone.

As the admin of mander.xyz, I am able to purge the user and all of its posts. However, even though the community is on my instance, I do not have the authority to rule over this content with respect to the other instances... So, even if I take an admin action it is not enough to stop the problem. The structure of authority is useful because it helps prevent abuse from admins, but it also means that we often need multiple different people to deal with the same issue.

Also, since the community is in my instance, I still get all of the reports from the other instances that can still see the spam comments. I can't take any action, as the messages show up as already removed, but I still need to manually click on them one by one to consider them resolved.

I am just trying to explain to you what it looks like from my perspective. It's not that I am complaining about how things work now. I understand that lemmy is still being developed and it needs to be polished, and as we experience these systems in practice we can come up with ways to improve the ways things work. I just want to share some of my perspective so that you can get an idea of why situations like this one might evolve the way they do. You really do need a combination of volunteers spread across different actions to take some coordinated action on a Sunday 😅 It is not optimal, but no one knows for sure what "optimal" looks like and how to get there.

In addition: as far as I know, only Lemmyworld has a timezone distributed admin team, but they are the biggest instance, so it makes sense for them.

Regarding your edit, the user behind the account took a picture from Hexbear. I saw something else yesterday on another spam account that it was from /qa/ whatever that means. 4chan?

[–] Masimatutu@mander.xyz 4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Yeah, Hexbear is admittedly a pretty good source for emojis, so I won't point fingers just yet.

This incident is revealing so many holes in Kbin... for instance blocking the account doesn't work, and reporting says that it doesn't work either (giving the message "We are working on resolving the issues..."), but it might be working despite that actually... I can't quite tell bc now pages 2 & 3 of this post/thread are entirely inaccessible. So moral of this story, if there is one, is that if you are on Kbin, try reporting it anyway and hope for the best outcome!:-P Edit: oh no wait, it definitely isn't working after all, bc despite that about pages 2 & 3 after posting my reply but for some reason not before, those comments are still showing up. Kbin users just need to wait it out, it seems. Edit 2: nope, it seems to actually work after all, despite how it did not look that way at first.

TLDR: Kbin users may easily get confused by the interface glitches, but while blocking someone may not work right now, reporting them may (unless it was just coincidental timing on my part), so give it a try!
